  1. What the family have said about the search for their sonpublished at 16:56 British Summer Time 15 July

Jay Slater's family have never given up hope of finding him ever since he disappeared.

His mother, Debbie Duncan, posted on a fundraising website that the family had flown to Tenerife in late June to keep "looking for our boy".

She's previously told of her "pain and agony" as no trace of her son could be found, and his father Warren Slater described the disappearance as "a living hell".

Debbie said donated funds were being used to cover the family's expenses in Tenerife and to support volunteers looking for Jay.

She posted an update on Saturday that the family was still on the island "searching daily with the help of volunteers and local hiking groups".

We're yet to hear from the family following the news that a body has been found in the search for Jay.

  2. The questions remaining over this morning's discovery in Tenerifepublished at 16:41 British Summer Time 15 July

There are still many details we don't have clarity on after Spanish police released a statement earlier this afternoon saying a body had been found during the search for Jay Slater in Tenerife.

It's not clear yet whether the remains are those of the 19-year-old, as a formal identification is yet to take place, although police say "all evidence suggests" it's him.

The Civil Guard has also not said when the body was found, or the exact location where it was discovered.

But the charity LBT Global, which works with families of people missing oversees, said the remains were found along with Jay Slater's clothes and possessions, close to his mobile phone's last known location.

The search for the Lancashire teenager was focused on the Masca area and on 30 June the Civil Guard said it was calling off its search.

In its statement earlier, it said it carried out an "incessant and discreet" search over the past 29 days, although it did not provide further details on what those continued searches entailed.

  3. Spanish police continued 'discreet' search for missing teenagerpublished at 16:12 British Summer Time 15 July

We mentioned the Civil Guard's statement briefly in our last post, but let's give you a reminder as to what else Spanish police said earlier.

It said its mountain rescue and intervention group located "the lifeless body of a young man" in the Masca area of Tenerife, without naming Jay Slater directly.

"All the evidence suggests, with full identification still pending, that this is the young British man who disappeared on 17 June. The initial evidence shows that he could have suffered an accident/fall in the inaccessible zone where he was found," the statement said.

Police added that teams had been searching constantly for 29 days and did so "discreetly" and in a natural space which was not "filled with onlookers".

Jay Slater, from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire, was in Tenerife to attend the NRG music festival in the tourist hotspot of Playa de las Americas.

He has not been heard from since the morning of 17 June, when he called friends to say he was lost in a mountainous area and had 1% battery on his phone.

In the early hours of the same day, he reportedly entered a car with two British men he had met during the course of the holiday.

He is believed to have ended up at an Airbnb rental in Masca, a tiny settlement in a rural national park, about 40 minutes drive north from his accommodation.

His friends, Brad Hargreaves and Lucy Law, said they spoke to him between 07:30 and 08:50 BST that morning, when he said he had missed a bus and was attempting to walk back.

Spanish police called off the land search for the apprentice bricklayer at the end of June after helicopters, drones and search dogs were deployed to find him, but said the investigation into his disappearance continued.

They said in their statement today they had carried out and "incessant and discreet" search over the past 29 days.

The discovery of the body in Tenerife comes after Jay Slater's mother Debbie Duncan spoke yesterday of her "heartache" over her missing son.

Duncan criticised "awful comments and conspiracy theories" as the family sought answers over his disappearance.

"We cannot put into words the heartache we are suffering as a family," Duncan said in a statement released through British overseas missing persons charity LBT Global on Sunday.

She described her son as someone who was "loved by everyone and has a close bond with his family and many many friends".

"Jay is a typical young man who loves life with a bright future ahead of him. This month will mark the end of his three year apprenticeship with the world at his feet," she said.

  7. Lancashire Police notified by Civil Guard over body discoverypublished at 14:31 British Summer Time 15 July

Lancashire Police have released a statement saying they've been told by Spanish police that the body of a man likely to be Jay Slater has been found.

The 19-year-old from Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire has not been heard from since going missing on 17 June in Tenerife.

"We have today (Monday 15 July) been notified by the Guardia Civil [Civil Guard] that they have found the body of a man and that the indications are that this is Jay Slater," the statement says.

"While at this stage no formal identification has been carried out our thoughts are very much with Jay’s family at this time, and we continue to offer them our support."

To call Masca a village is generous.

At most, a dozen houses and villas are dwarfed on all sides by towering volcanic cliffs. The road through barely lets two cars pass.

To get there, it’s a vomit-inducing rollercoaster of a road that at times seems like you’re driving through the sky.

Masca attracts view-seekers, hardcore hikers and nature lovers, mostly from Germany and mainland Spain.

It’s miles away, figuratively and literally, from the typical Tenerife party scene.

The body was found in a very inaccessible part of the island.

Spanish police believe this man had fallen down a chasm or a drop in the island - that is what made it so difficult to find the body.

The area is full of drops and has thick vegetation.

Drones, sniffer dogs and personnel were used on the ground in the search and we had been led to believe it looked as if it was going to be impossible to find the missing young Briton due to the difficult terrain.

The area of Masca - where the body has been found - was the focus of intense activity in the search for Jay Slater.

The area is a rugged, mountainous landscape in the north-west of Tenerife, far from the bustling nightlife of the south's beach resorts.

Most visitors to the area are hikers and nature lovers.

On 29 June, the BBC's Nick Garnett described the scene from the Rural de Teno national park.
