    Now more from Trump.

He says a deal couldn't have happened without the US striking three of Iran's nuclear sites earlier this year.

"We took a big cloud off the Middle East and off Israel," he says.

The US president says that "Israel, with our help, has won all they can", adding that now it's time for "peace and prosperity for the entire Middle East".

He mentions his trip to Egypt later today, which Trump says he's now very late for, and jokes about the length of the speeches given in the Knesset before him.

"I'll be quite late - they might not be there by the time I get there," he says.

Returning to the Knesset, Trump recalls the horrific scenes of 7 October, describing the attack as "one of the most evil desecrations" of Jews since the Holocaust.

He renews US support for Israel, saying: "Please know that America joins you in those two everlasting vows: never forget and never again."

The US president says the "long and painful nightmare" is now over for both the Israeli people and the Palestinians.

"This is now a very exciting time for Israel and for the entire Middle East," he says.

"All across the Middle East, the forces of chaos, terror and ruin that have plagued the region for decades now stand weakened, isolated and totally defeated."

  4. Only four deceased hostages to be returned today - Hostages and Missing Families Forumpublished at 12:38 BST 13 October
    Breaking

Away from the Israeli parliament, the Hostages and Missing Families Forum says it has been told that only four of the 28 deceased hostages held by Hamas will be returned today.

"This represents a blatant breach of the agreement by Hamas," the group says in a statement.

"The mediators must enforce the agreement’s terms and ensure Hamas pays a price for this violation," the statement adds, urging the Israeli government to take "immediate action to rectify this grave injustice".

As a reminder, a copy of the ceasefire agreement published by Israeli media states the remains of all of the deceased hostages should also be handed over by 12:00 local time (09:00 GMT) on Monday.

But it also appears to acknowledge that Hamas and other Palestinian factions may not be able to locate all of them within that timeframe.

Trump continues his speech by thanking his Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and his adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner - who Trump says "loves Israel" - as well as Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.

"We had some unbelievably good people working on this," Trump says.

Turning back to Israel, Trump says "Bibi would call me so many times" asking for weapons - "so many that Israel became strong and powerful... that's what led to peace," he says.

We can bring you a bit more about the disruption that forced Trump to pause his speech to the Knesset.

Trump’s speech was just interrupted as an opposition MK (Israeli parliament member) held up a piece of paper that said “Recognise Palestine”.

Speaker Amir Ohana shouted a call for order amid loud disapproval against the protesting MK who was quickly escorted out.

Ohana could be heard calling the name of Ofer Cassif, a left-wing politician, but I couldn’t see who was escorted out. Local reports suggest perhaps two MKs.

Trump restarted his speech saying that was “very efficient”.

As two Red Cross buses carrying Palestinian prisoners arrived in Ramallah just minutes ago, there were screams and shouts of joy from the families gathered.

Mothers and fathers wept as they embraced their loved ones, while others lifted them on to their shoulders to celebrate their release.

Many of those freed today were serving life sentences after being convicted by Israeli courts of crimes including murder.

A lot of them looked gaunt and some had visible injuries. Some struggled to walk. It’s clear that many families here are worried about the conditions their relatives are in.

  18. Netanyahu will not attend summit in Egypt - PM's officepublished at 11:16 BST 13 October
    Breaking

We reported earlier that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was invited by the Egyptian presidency to join the international summit taking place in Sharm el-Sheikh later today.

However, the Israeli prime minister's office has just released a statement saying Netanyahu will be unable to take part in the summit because of its proximity to the Jewish holiday of Sukkot.

"The prime minister thanked President Trump for his efforts to expand the circle of peace - peace through strength," the statement says.

Although there is a ceasefire in Gaza, a long-term peace deal is yet to be agreed - about 20 world leaders, including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, will discuss this at the Sharm el-Sheikh summit.

Dozens across Gaza have taken to the streets in celebration ahead of the expected arrival of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners released under the latest exchange deal with Israel.

In Khan Younis, hundreds gathered in a square decorated with Palestinian flags and banners as loudspeakers played patriotic songs. Families of detainees waved photos of their loved ones, while others danced and sang in scenes of rare joy after two years of war and displacement.

For many Palestinians, this day carries a double significance - the return of their prisoners and the handover by Hamas of Israeli hostages, a move that could pave the way for the crucial second phase of the ceasefire agreement.

“What people want now is for the war to end, once and for all,” says Abu Omar Saleh. “We’ve had enough of death, destruction, and living in tents.”

After two years of conflict that left Gaza devastated, many here believe that releasing the Israeli hostages removes one of Israel’s main justifications for continuing military operations.

There is widespread hope that this step could help secure a permanent end to the fighting.

In Nasser hospital - the biggest fully functioning medical facility in Khan Younis - medical teams are preparing to conduct urgent health checks for the freed detainees amid severe shortages of medicines and equipment.

Local doctors say many of the released prisoners in the past suffer from chronic illnesses and injuries sustained during detention.

Despite the hardships, the prevailing mood in Gaza is one of cautious optimism that this moment might finally signal the beginning of the end.
