  1. No trains to Liverpool Lime Streetpublished at 10:00 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January

    There could be disruption for fans travelling into Liverpool for Liverpool's game against Manchester United.

    National Rail has said no Avanti West Coast trains are currently able to travel to or from Liverpool Lime Street.

    This is due to a problem at the station depot, the agency said, adding it expects the issue to resolve by about 12:00 GMT.

    It comes alongside wider disruption to Merseyrail services today.

  2. Liverpool - Man Utd game latestpublished at 09:51 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January

    Liverpool FC have said today's game against Manchester United is set to go ahead "as normal".

    But the club said there would be a meeting at 12:00 GMT to assess the situation.

    The game is scheduled for 16:30 GMT.

  3. Liverpool Airport runway still shutpublished at 09:03 Greenwich Mean Time 5 January

    Officials at Liverpool John Lennon Airport say the runway remains closed but the airport is still open.

    They advise travellers to contact their airline for flight information.

    They said teams were working hard to clear the runway and will provide an update at 09:45 GMT.

    Manchester Airport's runways also remains shut due to heavy snow.

    Tram services in Blackpool have been suspended, with the operator expected to review the situation later in the day.

    Due to planned engineering works, there are no services on TransPennine Express between Preston and Manchester Victoria, and between Preston and Manchester Piccadilly.

    There are also no services on Avanti West Coast between Wigan North Western and Preston with replacement buses scheduled to run instead.

    The entry slip road on the M55 in Lancashire is shut eastbound at junction 1 near Preston due to a collision involving a HGV.

    Further south, the exit slip road on the M65 in Lancashire is closed eastbound at junction 5 near Blackburn due to stranded vehicles.

    National Highways officers are at the scene and advise taking extra time for journeys.

    Electricity North West says there has been no significant power cuts in north-west England so far.

    The company has extra teams on standby to make repairs but the biggest challenge could be accessing sites in poor weather, it said.

    It advises anyone who has a power cut, or notices damage to the network such as a fallen overhead line, to call them on 105.

    The A628 Woodhead Pass is closed in both directions between the A57 (Hollingworth) and A616 (Flouch) due to snow.

    Road users are advised to use the M60, M62 and M1 as an alternative route.

    Manchester Airport has told the BBC there has been a number of diversions because planes have been unable to land. Some of them have had to be sent to London.

    Manchester Airport and Liverpool John Lennon Airport have shut their runways although the airport buildings remain open.

    Travellers are advised to contact their airlines for further details.

    Liverpool Airport said it would provide an update at abut 08:45 GMT.

    Travel is advised only if necessary and people are warned to expect longer journeys and take extra precautions such as making sure they have blankets and food if they are going out.

    Among the icy roads are routes into hospitals, with cars reported to have got stuck near Royal Liverpool University Hospital.
