Chandra Kanneganti, local GP and Conservative candidate for Stoke-on-Trent Central, said the predicted Labour landslide was "something we expected."

Speaking of his chances of being elected, he said: "Being realistic, the chances are less because of the exit polls."

He added: "I never gave up my work as a GP. Yesterday I saw 50 patients, I will never leave my job. I hope the Labour government if it is formed, will support general practice."

    Peter Langley

Chester South and Eddisbury Reform UK candidate, Peter Langley, says he's "concerned" he may have split the vote, leading to a Labour win.

"When I've gone round, they've said 'we want to vote for you, but I'm really worried that it will split the vote,'"

"All I've said to them, is if everyone votes the way they want to, with their heart, then we can win this seat."

More from Simon Tagg, the Conservative candidate in Newcastle-under-Lyme.

I asked him if he was worried the Tories would be beaten into third place here. He said “I’d be disappointed, but the votes you’re talking about [elsewhere in the country] have come in from the North East where there is a large Reform base as there was for UKIP, whereas UKIP and Reform in general elections have done really poorly here.

"So we’ll see if they get the votes and who they’re getting them from. Are they getting them from Conservative or Labour? We’ll have to see.”

  4. 'I just want my country back'published at 00:06 British Summer Time 5 July

Simon Tagg is the Conservative candidate in Newcastle-under-Lyme. He’s the leader of Newcastle Borough Council and tells me he’s been campaigning on local issues like the stink from Walley’s Quarry landfill site and anti-social behaviour in the town centre.

Mr Tagg was a late selection for the Tories after the previous MP Aaron Bell stood down when the election was called.

The count is now well under way here at the Burntwood Leisure centre in Lichfield. The Lichfield seat has been held by Sir Michael Fabricant for the Conservative Party since 1997 and the area has had a large Conservative majority for the last four general elections. His tweets tonight have gained attention after he posted, external: "Never in the history of general elections have so many been let down by so few." Dave Robertson is running for Labour and Paul Ray for the Liberal Democrat.

  8. 'Rational and competent'published at 23:10 British Summer Time 4 July

    Matt Weigold
    BBC Radio Stoke

Sam Corcoran, Labour Leader of Cheshire East Council, was excited by the exit polls as he watched over the Congleton count. “What I'm looking forward to is dealing with a rational, competent, consistent government. We haven't had that in the past. It's caused problems for Cheshire East Council in adult social care and children's social care - things being cancelled overnight,” he said.

In Chester South and Eddisbury, the Lib Dem candidate Rob Herd says it's been a "good, strong and positive campaign".

The seat now stretches from the Shropshire and Staffordshire borders in the south, up to, as the name suggests, the southern part of Chester itself.

Many seats have seen changes to their name and/or boundary since the last election.
