  3. Progress for Greens - but disappointment toopublished at 13:45 British Summer Time 2 May

    Georgia Roberts
    Political reporter, BBC Derby

One smaller party that has made an improvement already on its initial tally of a solitary one is the Greens in Derbyshire.

They were hoping to make gains in the Amber Valley area in particular, and they've managed to do so, with the re-election of existing councillor Gez Kinsella, and another in Alport and Duffield.

But they also had high hopes of beating the Conservative leader of the council where I am in North East Derbyshire.

A win for them here would’ve represented their first significant inroads in this part of Derbyshire on the county council – and of course, would’ve given them the claim of dethroning a Conservative leader.

But with the Reform surge looking so strong, it now looks like those hopes are dimming.

  5. Nightmare coming true for Labourpublished at 13:33 British Summer Time 2 May

    Georgia Roberts
    Political reporter, BBC Derby

Labour in Derbyshire’s worst fears have been realised – Joan Dixon, their leader, has lost her seat.

That is pretty symbolic – Keir Starmer, don’t forget, launched his campaign in Bolsover a few weeks ago and the area has just returned a Labour MP in the General Election in July, regaining a symbolic Red Wall area and the seat of the famous Beast of Bolsover, former MP Dennis Skinner, from the Conservatives.

That progress seems to be slipping away.

    Joan Dixon

When I was in the area in recent days, Reform were telling me how confident they were of a clean sweep of all the area’s seats.

Senior Labour figures were telling me they had under-estimated how difficult Bolsover in particular would be for them.

The Labour leader being overcome by this tide hitting the county is a reflection of the wider picture across Derbyshire – both the two big parties bleeding votes to Reform.
