It's farewell to 86 MPs nationwide, with a number of Yorkshire MPs joining William Hague on the exit ramp.

Anne McIntosh will stand down as Conservative MP for Thirsk and Malton after being de-selected by the party, following a long-running dispute with local officials.

Long-standing Labour MP Linda Riordan revealed she was not seeking re-election this year due to ill health. The Halifax MP, who was first elected in 2005, said it had been a "tough decision" to leave due to her rheumatoid arthritis.

Even before the votes are counted we know we'll be saying goodbye to some stalwarts of Yorkshire's political landscape.

Former Tory leader William Hague has represented the North Yorkshire constituency of Richmond for 26 years but announced he was standing down last summer.

Mr Hague had a majority of more than 23,000 at the last election - the largest of any Tory seat in the country.

Polls have now closed and counting has begun in town halls, schools and sports centres across the region.

Council officials estimate that the first results are expected for the Cleethorpes constituency at about 02:30 BST, continuing right through the night until 05:00.
