  1. Most Labour candidates - and all Lib Dems - 'cannot be trusted'published at 13:18 British Summer Time 6 June 2017

UKIP leader Paul Nuttall has given a thinly coded endorsement of the Conservatives in seats in which his party is not standing.

He accused the Labour leader of opposing anti-terrorism legislation, saying his own criticisms of Theresa May "pale into complete insignificance compared to the prospect of a Jeremy Corbyn or a Diane Abbott government".

Mr Nuttall said: "Out of the more than 200 constituencies where UKIP has stood aside in this election, there are only a handful where I would recommend a Labour vote."

He added: "In the vast majority of other seats, Labour candidates cannot be trusted on Brexit and can't be trusted on national security either. The same is true of the Liberal Democrats everywhere."

  2. UKIP calls for 'debate' on routinely arming policepublished at 13:12 British Summer Time 6 June 2017

Paul Nuttall called for a reversal of police budget cuts and more officers on the beat in his campaign speech.

The UKIP leader also proposed that anyone who goes abroad to fight for so-called Islamic State should have their passport and citizenship revoked and not be allowed back into the UK.

And he said there should be "a debate... over whether we routinely arm our police force, particularly in major cities".

Mr Nuttall said he has been calling for "many years now for the banning of all Saudi and all Qatari funding of mosques in Britain".

A few commentators, including Lucy Fisher of the Times, noted the UKIP leader's criticism of Muslims for not doing enough to root out extremism.

  3. Nuttall attacks 'complacent establishment' over terror threatpublished at 13:06 British Summer Time 6 June 2017

    Paul Nuttall

In a campaign speech a little earlier, UKIP leader Paul Nuttall said intelligence and security services were "overwhelmed by the impossible scale of the task that they face".

This is "a damning indictment of the profoundly complacent British political establishment" which allowed Islamists "to set up home" in the UK, he alleged.

This "establishment" has also been "content to whip up cries of 'racism' against those of us who warned we were on a disastrous course", he claimed.

    Quote Message

For far too long politicians in this country have lacked the courage to name the source of terror within our midst. I will do so again today: it is Islamist extremism."

  11. Greens: Trump should apologise to London mayorpublished at 12:35 British Summer Time 6 June 2017

    The Daily Politics

    Jonathan Bartley

Green Party co-leader Jonathan Bartley wades into the row over US President Donald Trump's Twitter criticism of the London mayor.

"Until Donald Trump apologises to Sadiq Khan, he shouldn't be allowed to have a state visit here," he says.

Mr Bartley also criticised the UK's relationship with Saudi Arabia - but Conservative Mark Harper disagrees, saying: "My understanding is that our intelligence services receive vital information from the Saudis."

  12. 'That's not true' - Harper attacked over police numberspublished at 12:26 British Summer Time 6 June 2017

    The Daily Politics

    Mark Harper

Mark Harper, former Conservative minister, is asked to admit that police officer numbers have fallen by 20,000 since 2010.

He says he wants to point out that the government has "protected police budgets" since 2015 and increased funding for counter-terrorism.

Labour's Jack Dromey attempts to interject. "That's not true Mark, he says, but doesn't get the admission he's looking for.

  15. People want more police on the streets - Dromeypublished at 12:19 British Summer Time 6 June 2017

    The Daily Politics

    Jack Dromey

Labour's Jack Dromey defends Jeremy Corbyn's record on backing anti-terror legislation.

He says the Labour leader helped the government get through the Investigatory Powers Bill, increasing the ability of the security services to gather personal data in the hunt for terror suspects.

Pushed by Jo Coburn about how many other laws Mr Corbyn has opposed, Mr Dromey steers the conversation back to the question of resources.

More police on the streets, more firearms officers, he adds, that's "what the public want right now", not more laws.

  18. PM: I've been fighting a positive campaignpublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 6 June 2017

On a visit to Wrexham a short time ago, Theresa May was asked what had gone wrong for her party during the campaign.

She clearly didn't accept the premise of the question:

    Quote Message

I've been fighting a positive campaign around the country... There's a clear choice for people when they come to vote on Thursday, there's only one person who's going to be prime minister on Friday, it's either me or Jeremy Corbyn and the clear choice for people is who do they trust to get the best deal for Britain in Europe, who's got the will, who's got the plan for those Brexit negotiations."
