    John Curtice, professor of politics at Strathclyde University, says there is one crucial statistic to keep in your mind in the next few days.

    At the last election in 2015 the Conservatives were seven points ahead of Labour in the national vote and that secured them an overall majority of 12.

    So, any poll that puts the Conservative lead at six points or less is suggesting that the Conservatives will be less far ahead of Labour than two years ago - and, consequently, could potentially be at risk of losing their overall majority.

    Conversely, any poll that reckons the Conservatives are ahead by eight points or more implies that the party is likely to make gains from Labour and thus increase its majority.

    Theresa May has been defending her record as home secretary after saying there is too much tolerance of extremism in the UK.

    Speaking to Radio 1 Newsbeat at a campaign rally in Bradford this evening the prime minister said: "The threat has evolved and we need to adapt and respond to that threat."

    Asked how much responsibility she took as former home secretary for tolerance of extremism, she said; "When I was home secretary I put forward a counter-extremism strategy and I gave the police extra powers to be able to deal with terrorists."

    Asked whether she got things wrong as home secretary, Mrs May said "No, things have been changing.”
