Labour's John Woodcock says he has "no idea" why his party has been so successful in the election - after he previously predicted it was heading for a "historic and catastrophic defeat".
The Barrow and Furness MP says "there's going to be a huge question for the party about which direction it takes".
But he says "there is not the appetite for the Conservatives' paucity of vision, lack of hope and doing down of this country".
The Lib Dems have narrowly won Oxford West and Abingdon, unseating Health Minister Nicola Blackwood, who took the seat from the Lib Dems in 2010.
