    Jeremy Corbyn has performed "infinitely better" than anyone could have expected - even Jeremy Corbyn - Labour veteran Dame Margaret Beckett says.

    By contrast, she says, Theresa May had performed worse than she should.

    She concedes that she may have been hasty when she said Mr Corbyn should have been part of the debate, but not necessarily the leader.

    She adds that "British people don't tend to like having an election they don't have to have".
