    The Northampton Chronicle and Echo , externalis reporting on the Conservatives' "clean sweep" across the town's two seats.

    Tory Michael Ellis, who held Northampton North, told the paper, external he would "continue to serve to the best of my ability".

    The Conservative candidate beat Labour's Beth Miller by 10,268 votes, more than double the majority at the 2017 election.

    Voter turnout was down by 2.1 percentage points since the last general election.

    More than 60,000 people, 70.2% of those eligible to vote, went to polling stations across the area on Thursday, in the first December general election since 1923.

    The Conservative candidate beat Labour's Gen Kitchen by 27,761 votes, 4,921 more votes than the majority at the 2017 election.

    Chris Lofts of the Liberal Democrats came third and the Green Party's Denise Donaldson came fourth.

    Voter turnout was down by 2.1 percentage points since the last general election.

    Nearly 67,000 people, roughly three-quarters of those eligible to vote, went to polling stations across the area on Thursday, in the first December general election since 1923.

    Three of the six candidates, Denise Donaldson (Green), Josh Phillips (independent) and Stuart McCutcheon (independent) lost their £500 deposits after failing to win 5% of the vote.

    If you're just waking up, here's the picture across Northamptonshire.

    It's been a good night for the Conservative Party with all six of the seats in the county so far declared being held with increased majorities.

    That includes Corby, Daventry, Kettering, Northampton North, Northampton South and Wellingborough.

    Gareth Eales, a postal worker, said it was "too early to start an autopsy" in a seat which the Conservatives won last time with a majority of 1,159 - and said that he couldn't have done anything more locally.
