    Rosena Allin-Khan has been re-elected as the MP for Tooting, with a decreased majority.

    The Labour candidate beat Conservative Kerry Briscoe by 14,307 votes, 1,151 votes less than the majority at the 2017 election.

    Olly Glover of the Liberal Democrats came third and the Green Party's Glyn Goodwin came fourth.

    Voter turnout was up by 1.4 percentage points since the last general election.

    More than 58,000 people, roughly three-quarters of those eligible to vote, went to polling stations across the area on Thursday, in the first December general election since 1923.

    Jeremy Corbyn won a bitter-sweet victory in his Islington North seat as he announced he would stand down as Labour leader over his party's "disappointing" election results.

    Mr Corbyn, Labour leader since 2015, beat Liberal Democrat Nick Wakeling by 26,188 votes, 7,027 votes less than the majority at the 2017 election.

    In his victory speech, Mr Corbyn conceded that it had been a "very disappointing night for the party".

    Labour is on course for its worst result since 1935, the poll suggests, with the party forecast to lose 71 seats.

    Mr Corbyn said he would not lead Labour in a future general election, but would stay on for the time being while a period of "reflection" and discussion takes place.

  13. Conservatives win back Kensingtonpublished at 04:24 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2019

    The Conservatives have won back Kensington by 150 votes.

    The hyper-marginal constituency, having been gained by Labour in 2017 with only a 20-vote majority, was seen as a target for three main national parties.

    Conservative candidate Felicity Buchan, won 16,768 votes.

    Labour's Emma Dent Coad, the sitting MP, won 16,618 votes.

    The three-horse race has been contentious. Mrs Dent Coad reported her Liberal Democrat opponent, Sam Giymah, over “inaccurate and dangerous” allegations she had been involved in choosing the cladding that set alight in the Grenfell Fire.

    Mr Gyimah, a former Tory minister and banker who defected to the Lib Dems over Brexit, won 9,312 votes.

    Julia Lopez has been re-elected MP for Hornchurch & Upminster, meaning that the Conservative Party holds the seat with an increased majority.

    The MP beat Labour's Tele Lawal by 23,308 votes. This was more than Ms Lopez's 17,723 vote majority in the 2017 general election.

    Thomas Clarke of the Liberal Democrats came third and the Green Party's Peter Caton came fourth.

    Voter turnout was down by 2.5 percentage points since the last general election.
