His comments appear to reference - albeit obliquely - Clinton's gaffe back in September, when she called half of Trump's supporters a "basket of deplorables".

"You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump's supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Right? The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic -- you name it."

Trump supporters have since - in the modern parlance - "owned" the slur, printing all sorts of merchandise branded with the word deplorable.

    David Attenborough and a lizard

David Attenborough, the revered BBC naturalist of Planet Earth fame, has expressed his frustration with the US 2016 presidential election.

Promoting his newest series, Planet Earth II, earlier this week, he told an interviewer:

“Well, we lived through that with earlier presidents – they’ve been equally guilty… But what alternative do we have? Do we have any control or influence over the American elections? Of course we don’t,” he said.

Then in a hushed voice he added: "We could shoot him, it's not a bad idea", before chuckling.

  7. Trump versus realitypublished at 19:01 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2016

Deadspin has cleverly intercut Trump's comments in Tampa earlier today, about Obama taking on a heckler, with footage of the actual incident.

It goes to show just how fast and loose Trump plays with the truth sometimes. The Republican accused Obama of screaming at and disrespecting the heckler, when in reality the president did anything but.

  9. Early voting in Nevada points to Clinton taking the statepublished at 18:39 Greenwich Mean Time 5 November 2016

Polling day may not be until Tuesday but more than 33 million Americans have already cast their ballot across the country in early voting.

Democrats appear to have taken a significant lead in the key state of Nevada, with reports that voter turnout among Hispanics and African Americans was strong, based on estimates.

In Clark County, home to about two-thirds of Nevada's active registered voters, Friday saw a single day record of 57,174 early ballots.

Democrats are now projected to lead in the county by more than 72,000 votes there, 14 points ahead of Republicans.

Obviously that could all change on election day depending on how many Republicans turn up to vote.

Former UK justice secretary, Brexit campaigner, and journalist Michael Gove was spotted moments ago at Clinton's Florida rally.

Gove is now back to journalism, covering the election for the Times of London.

He attended a Trump rally yesterday in North Carolina, writing:

"Donald J Trump does everything big. Except humility. He thinks he should be president because he has “the best words” and the “best temperament”, and that under his leadership America is going to have “some big, big beautiful weeks” and “some great years, truly great years”. But in what may be an historic first, the Donald tried to play down his own importance on Thursday night."

Clinton spoke briefly in Pembroke Pines, Florida, where it is currently pouring rain.

She was introduced by Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teen that was killed in 2012 by a neighbourhood watchman who was not found guilty of any crime.

As sheets of rain crashed down on her teleprompter, Clinton told the crowd they were a "hearty bunch standing out here in the rain".

She also mentioned the Jay Z concert last night, saying her favourite part "was Beyonce's backing dancers in pant suits".

Three days out from the vote, Clinton sounded as if she was losing her voice. That was her only campaign rally today, compared with four for Trump.

She heads next to Philadelphia to attend a fundraiser concert hosted by pop singer Katy Perry.
