    Phil Lord, who wrote and directed The Lego Movie, is not too disheartened his film was snubbed. He tweeted a picture, external of his own Lego Oscar saying: "It's okay. Made my own!"

    He added: "This is not a tragedy. Congrats to incredible crew and cast of The Lego Movie, who made a classic."

    Lord's co-director Chris Miller said he was thrilled, external that the movie's theme song, Everything Is Awesome, had been nominated, "though currently the title of the song doesn't seem especially accurate!"

    Bradley Cooper receives his third consecutive Oscar nomination for his role in Clint Eastwood's American Sniper.

    He's the first actor to achieve the feat since Russell Crowe was nominated for The Insider, Gladiator and A Beautiful Mind at the start of the century.

    Also in the live action short category is Boogaloo and Graham, directed by Michael Lennox. Filmed entirely on location in Northern Ireland, the film is set in 1970s Belfast and follows two young boys who discover the facts of life, aided by the help of their pet chickens. The short also picked up a Bafta nomination last week.

    Stephen Hawking biopic The Theory Of Everything has received five Oscar nominations, meaning producer Tim Bevan can dust down his dinner jacket again this year.

    He's been nominated for an award on three previous occasions - for Atonement, Elizabeth and Les Miserables - but has never won.

    "We're very well trained at the bridesmaid job," he joked to BBC Radio 5 live.

    "But it's a very great honour. The Academy Awards stand head and shoulders above the others. As the nominations get read out, you certainly get a knot in your stomach."

    He added the Oscar voters would be subject to a lot of... er, persuasion, over the next few weeks.

    "The campaigning goes from sometime last year until the voting stops in the next couple of weeks.

    "It's just a question of keeping the film fresh in everyone's minds and reminding people how great these two actors are."

    The live action short category includes The Phone Call, by British director Mat Kirkby. It stars Sally Hawkins and Jim Broadbent.

    Hawkins plays a helpline call centre volunteer who receives a phone call from a mystery man.

    The film was shot in 2013 a week after Hawkins finished filming Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine (for which she was nominated for the best supporting actress Oscar last year). Kirkby sold his car to pay for the film.

    John Legend and Common wrote the Oscar-nominated song Glory, external for Selma, which looks at Martin Luther King's pivotal civil rights marches in Selma, Alabama.

    The duo are already front-runners for the best original song award, having picked up a Golden Globe in the same category last weekend.

    Legend has just tweeted, external: "So grateful for @TheAcademy Award nomination for GLORY!!! On MLK's birthday!!"

    Robert Duvall's nomination for best supporting actor in The Judge makes him the oldest Oscar nominee in this category. At 84, he is two years older than the previous oldest nominee, Hal Holbrook, who was up for Into the Wild in 2008. The oldest winner in this category is Christopher Plummer, who was 82 when he picked up the Oscar for Beginners in 2012.

    Meryl Streep's nomination for Into The Woods brings her Oscar tally to 19, extending her reign as most-nominated actress ever.

    Katharine Hepburn is in second place, with 12 citations, followed by Bette Davis on 10.

    Streep has won three - two for best actress (The Iron Lady/Sophie's Choice) and one for best supporting actress (Kramer vs Kramer).
