    The Oscar nominations will be announced in two swathes, starting at 13:30 GMT.

    The first section, announced by Gravity director Alfonso Cuaron and Star Wars' director JJ Abrams will include best animated film and best original song as well as the technical and design categories.

    The second section, announced by actor Chris Pine and Academy boss Cheryl Boone Isaacs, will include the major awards such as best actress, best actor and best director, before concluding with best picture.

    The Oscars haven't even happened yet, but this year's film festival season is about to kick off.

    Robert Pattinson film Life and Dame Helen Mirren's Woman in Gold are to premiere at the 65th Berlin Film Festival, external next month. Directed by Anton Corbijn, Life is inspired by the friendship between Magnum photographer Dennis Stock (Pattinson) and actor James Dean (Dane DeHaan) after Stock was commissioned to snap the star for Life magazine in 1955.

    Also based on a true story, Woman in Gold sees Dame Helen star as octogenarian Jewish refugee Maria Altman, who takes on the government to recover artwork she believes rightfully belongs to her family.

    Mariah Carey has announced her first-ever Las Vegas residency. The 45-year-old will play at Caesar's Palace, replacing Celine Dion who put her career on hold "indefinitely" last summer to care for her ill husband.

    Carey made the announcement in a pre-recorded interview on The Ellen Show, external, saying her show at The Colosseum would be inspired by her album, Number 1's. "This is now the updated version with 18 of them," she added.

    Never mind Oscar nominations, it's National Hat Day! So what better day for Pharrell Williams's famously high hat to move into the Grammy Museum, where it will be on display until 15 March in celebration of "the Grammy effect".

    The Vivienne Westwood hat - credited with sparking a hat-bothering trend - is on loan from US restaurant chain Arby's, which bought the hat for $44,100 (£27,000) when Williams auctioned it on eBay last year.
