    The acceptance speech by Emma Stone, who won best actress for her performance as Mia in La La Land, is going down very well indeed on social media.

    She said: "In a time that's so divisive I think it's really special we were able to come together tonight thanks to Bafta to celebrate the positive gift of creativity and how it can transcend borders and how it can help people to feel a little less alone."

    And so, with a lovely speech from Mel Brooks, tonight's ceremony draws to a close.

    The winners are now heading up to the stage for a group photo.

    Mel Brooks thanked Bafta for their good choices tonight - "especially me" - as he accepted his award.

    To choose an American is mighty nice of you, mighty nice.

    He said he doesn't consider the UK to be a separate country to the US, but rather a "vast Brooklyn that just speaks better". 

    Receiving an award previously won by the likes of Alfred Hitchcock and Laurence Olivier is a "singular and august honour and I'm very grateful".

  12. Bafta fellowship - Mel Brookspublished at 21:26 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2017

    The Duke of Cambridge, president of Bafta, was introduced by Stephen Fry as "Prince Bill" as he arrived on stage to present Mel Brooks with his fellowship. 

    William joked: "Bafta have sadly run out of actors, so I've been roped in." 

    He described Brooks as an "extremely talented actor, comedian, film director, composer and songwriter".

    Kenneth Lonergan picked up the award for best original screenplay for Manchester by the Sea. 

    He said star Casey Affleck gives "one of the most brilliant performances I've ever seen - or think I will" in a film about "looking grief and sorrow in the face". 

    Lonergan said they were among the finest cast he has ever seen in a film.

  20. Outstanding contribution - Curzonpublished at 20:40 Greenwich Mean Time 12 February 2017

    Curzon cinemas picks up the outstanding British contribution award. 

    Elle star Isabelle Huppert, giving out the award, described it as "an organisation so very close to my heart".
