This year's acting Oscar winners lined up for a signature photograph after the ceremony - but there was someone missing.

In the snap are Joaquin Phoenix, who won best actor for Joker, Renee Zellweger, who won best actress for Judy, and Brad Pitt, who claimed best supporting actor for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Who has gone AWOL? Laura Dern - who clinched best supporting actress for Marriage Story. We presume she is caught up in the festivities.

She was last seen hugging her mum.

As this year's Oscars ceremony draws to a close, some of those celebrities without an invite to the Dolby Theatre (sore point, don't mention it) have been arriving at the legendary post-awards parties.

The Vanity Fair bash is one of the most exclusive - and those spotted there so far include Elizabeth Banks, Rashida Jones and Joan Collins.

As champagne corks pop across Hollywood following this year's Oscars, there are some film-makers still recovering after being nominated for a rather less glamorous prize.

The Golden Raspberry Awards - or the Razzies - are the annual awards for the worst films and performances - and its nominations were announced on Saturday.

On the list are Cats - the much-criticised musical film - and the latest outing in the Rambo franchise.

I suppose a win is a win at the end of the day...

Having just won an Oscar for their song (I'm Gonna) Love Me Again, Sir Elton immediately dedicated it to his writing partner Bernie Taupin in the press room.

"This is for him, my partner of 53 years, without him I wouldn’t be here," he said.

"He starts the process, without him I’m nobody, without him I can't start the journey. I wanted to get an Oscar for everyone involved in the film - David my husband, has been on for 12 years to get this made.

"In the end we got it made the right way. Taron Egerton should be one of the best acors nominated - for me he was the best performance this year."

He added that he'd just FaceTimed his sons in Australia, and said they're "so happy".

Taupin added: "What you see in the film is what you get, the theme is love and trust and believing iin the person you're working with - it's like a marriage.

"One of the things that makes it work is being different, having different lives. Being different has run through the bloodlines in our friendship since we first met."

  9. What did our arts editor make of Parasite?published at 04:42 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2020

Will Gompertz gave the film ★★★★☆

    Parasite film

You don't get many movies like Parasite, nowadays.

In a celluloid landscape dominated by comic-book blockbusters, re-booted franchises, and opulent Netflix Originals, small-scale domestic social satires about class and inequality are a rarity.

That's because the modern movie mogul thinks films like Parasite don't belong on the silver screen. They're better suited to the home cinema and one of those massive, incongruous TVs that make it look as if someone's parked the family SUV in the front room.

Meanwhile, the modern television mogul thinks films like Parasite should be stretched out beyond two hours into an Emmy-winning 10-season box set. And so, in the end, movies like Parasite don't get made at all. And that's why they are a rarity.

  11. WINNER: Best picture - Parasitepublished at 04:26 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2020

    ParasiteImage source, AFP/Getty

OMG! Parasite wins the big award of the night, and year. The first ever foreign language film to win the main prize.

    It beat:

    • Ford v Ferrari
    • The Irishman
    • Jojo Rabbit
    • Joker
    • Little Women
    • Marriage Story
    • Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood
    • And the favourite... 1917

The producers described the win as "a very opportune moment in history right now", thanking the academy.

Then the lights went out. You couldn't write it.

It's the fourth award for the South Korean thriller about social class divisions. Here's some of the real people living in Seoul's basement apartments, as portrayed in the film.

Director Bong Joon-ho had nothing to add on the mic this time around. If he's been drinking as much as he promised to since receiving the last award, then that might explain it.

  12. WINNER: Best actress - Renee Zellwegerpublished at 04:13 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2020

    Renee ZellwegerImage source, Shutterstock

Renee Zellweger wins for her portrayal of Judy Garland.

Her performance in Judy was widely praised, and this marks a hugely successful comeback for Zellweger.

She has previously won best supporting actress for her role in Cold Mountain, but took several years out of showbusiness and didn't take on any acting roles between 2010-2016

It marks some form of late recognition fro the Academy for Garland, who never won an Oscar in her lifetime.

"Although Judy Garland didn't receive this award in her time... it's representative of her legacy of unique exceptionalism, inclusivity, and generosity of spirit. It transcends any one artistic achievement," she said.

"Ms Garland, you are certainly among the heroes who unite and define us, and this is certainly for you."

    The other nominees were:

    • Cynthia Erivo - Harriet
    • Scarlett Johansson - Marriage Story
    • Saoirse Ronan - Little Women
    • Charlize Theron - Bombshell

This means that all four of the major acting prizes tonight have gone to the bookies' favourites, there have been no upsets. Zellweger, Phoenix, Pitt and Dern have won their acting prizes at every major ceremony this awards season.

  13. WINNER: Best actor - Joaquin Phoenix (Joker)published at 04:06 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2020

    Joaquin PhoenixImage source, Reuters

He's done it! The Joker star beat:

    • Antonio Banderas - Pain and Glory
    • Leonardo DiCaprio - Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood
    • Adam Driver - Marriage Story
    • Jonathan Pryce - The Two Popes

He was handed the award by British star and new blonde Olivia Colman, who joked that her Oscar win last year for The Favourite was the, ahem, "best night of my husband's life".

After having addressed a lack of diversity at last week's Baftas, Phoenix's Oscars speech was a rallying cry for animal rights and veganism.

"I think we've become very disconnected from the natural world and many of us, what we’re guilty of, is an egocentric world view," he declared, noting how many people plunder animals for milk for their coffee and cereal.

"Now I have been a scoundrel in my life," he admitted. "I've been selfish, I've been cruel at times, hard to work with and ungrateful... But so many of you have given me a second chance".

He then encouraged everyone in the room to "guide each other to redemption".

An emotional Phoenix finished by quoting some lyrics from his late brother River:

"Run to the rescue with love, and peace will follow"

Veteran director Steven Spielberg takes to the stage to introduce the In Memoriam section, where film industry figures who have died in the past year are remembered.

Billie Eilish performs Yesterday by The Beatles as the faces of some of those we've lost flash up on screen.

Kobe Bryant, who died last month in a helicopter crash, is among those remembered, along with Hollywood legend Kirk Douglas, who died last week at the age of 103.

  15. WINNER: Best director - Bong Joon-ho (Parasite)published at 03:52 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2020

That's the biggest upset so far! Bong Joon-ho has beaten all of the big boys:

    • The Irishman - Martin Scorsese
    • Joker - Todd Phillips
    • 1917 - Sam Mendes
    • Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood - Quentin Tarantino

"After winning best international feature I thought I was done for the day and ready to relax" he joked, again via his translator who is also having the biggest night of her life.

He then thanked Martin Scorsese, whose films he said he studied at school.

The US director then received a standing ovation, despite having finished runner-up. That was a nice moment as the teacher became the pupil.

"I will drink until next morning" concluded Bong Joon-ho, whose English is always on-point when it comes to boozing it seems.

Those are always the first words you learn when you go abroad though, aren't they? Be honest.

    Funny you should ask.

Weaver told the ceremony: "Tonight we want to celebrate in the first time in the 92-year history of the Oscars, a female conductor will be leading the orchestra finally."

I met Eimear Noone, who is conducting the Oscars orchestra.

Elton John and Bernie TaupinImage source, Getty

It's another British win as Sir Elton John takes to the stage with co-writer Bernie Taupin.

The pair composed (I'm Gonna) Love Me Again for Rocketman - the film based on Sir Elton's life, which he performed earlier in the ceremony.

Paying tribute to Taupin, Sir Elton said: " "When I was screwed up, when I was normal. He's aways been there for me."

It's the first time Sir Elton has won in this category since his work on The Lion King 25 years ago.

    The other nominees were:

    • I Can't Let You Throw Yourself Away - Toy Story 4 (Randy Newman)
    • I'm Standing With You - Breakthrough (Diane Warren)
    • Into the Unknown - Frozen 2 (Kristen Anderson-Lopez & Robert Lopez)
    • Stand Up - Harriet (Joshuah Brian Campbell & Cynthia Erivo)
  18. WINNER: Best original score - Jokerpublished at 03:44 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2020

Thank you to the Academy for welcoming me so warmly," says Joker's composer Hildur Guðnadóttir.

"A film composer is only as creative as the dialogue with the director. Todd Phillips, you were so generous to invite me on this journey."

    The other nominees were:

    • Little Women - Alexandre Desplat
    • Marriage Story - Randy Newman
    • 1917 - Thomas Newman

  19. Bernie Taupin says awards are 'a crapshoot'published at 03:41 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2020

By Helen Bushby in the Oscars press room

I chatted with Oscar-nominated Bernie Taupin a couple of days ago in LA. He told me he had literally no idea if his song with Sir Elton John, (I'm Gonna) Love Me Again, would win.

"It's a crapshoot, man," he said. "I don't know. I mean, awards are always sort of a dangerous thing to try and predict. They can all get they can go south very quickly. So I'm just happy I'm thrilled to be here."

Explaining how he chose the lyrics, he said: "I knew it had to be a song about redemption. I knew it was a song that was going to follow on from I'm still standing at the end of the movie."

Sir Elton has just belted out his song on stage, so not too long for them to wait to find out if they'll get the coveted gold statuette.

Laura Dern won best supporting actress for Marriage story, but she told the press room: "If I could give this Oscar to [Little Women director] Greta Gerwig I would do it right now, and to [The Farewell director] Lulu Wang."

Both women lost out on possible nominations for best director, in a category where five men were nominated.

Dern added: "There are great films by women - we should focus less on the lack of accolades, and more on the business and people and giving money to more diverse voices."

She said she shared her win with the couple Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig, having starred in both their films.

"I spent my year in art and friendship with them," the actress said.
