We're drawing our live coverage of Glastonbury Festival 2023 to a close now, after Sir Elton John attracted huge crowds to the Pyramid Stage for (possibly) his final UK show.

There have been lots of other incredibly memorable performances over the weekend, including from our Friday night headliners Arctic Monkeys and Saturday night's main act Guns N' Roses.

Royal Blood, Lizzo, Lil Nas X, Blondie, Lewis Capaldi, the ChurnUps (otherwise known as Foo Fighters), Lana Del Rey and Young Fathers are some other names that spring to mind.

The live pages have been edited by myself, Jasmine Taylor-Coleman, Owen Amos and Marita Moloney.

Thanks to our writers Paul Glynn, Laura Gozzi, Christy Cooney, Imogen James, Aoife Walsh and all our reporters on site.

    See you for Glastonbury 2024!

    What a weekend!

Here are some of the stand-out acts from a Glastonbury Festival that certainly didn't disappoint:

    Friday

The Arctic Monkeys looked good on the dancefloor as they headlined the Pyramid Stage on Friday night.

A mystery band on the bill called the ChurnUps were revealed as Foo Fighters, with Beatle Sir Paul McCartney watching on from the wings.

    Saturday

LA rockers Guns N' Roses shook up the farm, firstly by turning up on time (for once) and then by rolling back the years with guitar hero hits, such as Sweet Child O' Mine.

Lizzo brought the party vibes, dancing around while playing her flute in between belting out pop hits including Juice.

    Sunday

Sir Elton John played (perhaps) his last ever UK gig to a crazily large crowd and was joined on stage by the likes of Brandon Flowers from the Killers and Rina Sawayama.

Cat Stevens played the coveted Sunday afternoon legends slot on the Pyramid Stage and was followed by Blondie. Between them they gave some of the biggest singalong sessions of the weekend.

  4. Elton John superfan still standing after 19 hourspublished at 23:43 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

    Greg from Coventry

You might remember us telling you earlier about Elton John superfan Gregg Rathbone from Coventry, who started queuing at the Pyramid Stage from 4am this morning to get the best spot.

Gregg told us previously he'd had five hours' sleep over the past few days but was hoping adrenaline would get him through.

Well, he's made it out the other side and still has his Elton John-inspired baseball outfit intact.

    Now that's dedication.

From one of the late Queen's favourite singers to the Queens of the Stone Age...

The hard-hitting California-based rock band did not watch Elton, not because they don't like him, but because they've just been skillfully thrashing their way through songs from their new album, In Times New Roman, on the Other Stage while he was playing the Pyramid.

Frontman Josh Homme recently revealed he had had cancer surgery. He's assertively orchestrating the mosh pit from the stage here tonight.

Quite a few people seem to have hot-footed it over from the Pyramid Stage for their finale of No One Knows and Song for the Dead, at the very least.

Phoenix, Alt-J and Rudimental were the other headliners having to compete with Sir Elton on the night, but they all have their own big tunes and hardcore fanbases too.

Plus it's hard to quantify just how big a festival this is.

  7. What do we know about next year's Glastonbury?published at 23:07 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

Glastonbury 2024 might seem a long way off... but we're sure we're not alone in wishing we could skip straight to it.

    When will the festival be?

Glastonbury usually takes place on the last full weekend of June, so that means it might well run from Wednesday 26 June to Sunday 30 June 2024.

When will tickets go on sale?

Tickets are likely to go on sale in October or November and there will probably be a resale window with returned tickets in spring next year.

    How much will they cost?

This year's tickets were £340 and they have steadily increased in recent years, so may cost more.

But who might the headliners be?

Well, your guess is as good as ours! The headliners for Glastonbury usually aren't revealed until well after the tickets have gone on sale.

  8. Take a bow Sir Eltonpublished at 23:04 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

Huge cheers surround the Pyramid Stage as Sir Elton John finishes his headline slot.

Hand-in-hand his band gather in a line and bow before the huge crowd.

  9. 'It's been an incredible journey' - Elton Johnpublished at 22:58 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

Before his final song, Sir Elton turned to the Glastonbury crowd and thanked them for "dressing up" and "making me feel so happy".

He also thanked his fans for "52 years of amazing love and loyalty".

"It's been an incredible journey," he said, getting visibly emotional and adding he's had "the best, best time".

Sir Elton is now performing an extended version of Rocket Man, going wild on the piano keys, while fireworks explode around him.

  10. We'll miss you Eltonpublished at 22:53 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

    Mark Savage
    Music correspondent at Glastonbury

And that’s it. The curtain closes on Elton John’s headline set, and his UK touring career, with an elegiac version of Rocket Man.

“I’ll always have you in my head and my heart and my soul,” he tells the audience.

Even after thousands of gigs, 52 years of shows, Glastonbury seems different. I have a lump in my throat. We’ll miss you Elton.

  11. Elton dedicates song to friend George Michaelpublished at 22:51 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

    Paul Glynn
    Entertainment & arts reporter

Sir Elton just gave a shout out to his sadly-now-departed "friend and inspiration", fellow singer George Michael, noting that today would've been his 60th birthday.

This, of course, can only mean one thing, and he's performed their hit Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me, but this tiime on his own

The pair performed the song for the first time together at Live Aid at Wembley Stadium in 1985 and it later went on to top the charts in both the UK and US.

You can watch their original duet below and decide between you who should sing which part.

  12. Sunday night's alright for headliningpublished at 22:41 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

    Paul Glynn
    Entertainment & arts reporter

After a mid-section containing some powerful ballads, Sir Elton has raced through some more up tempo some rock 'n' roll classics now as we move towards the end.

Crocodile Rock rolled into Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting, complete with some Jerry Lee Lewis-style pulsating piano playing.

Then came a rousing I'm Still Standing. He was actually sitting for that one to be fair, tinkling away, but the crowd all seemed to be up dancing.

Sir Elton, who wrote all of these hits with the help of lyricist Bernie Taupin, actually took some stick online for a lockdown version of Still Standing which some felt sounded like Vic Reeves’ club singer, with its clipped vocals. But he sounds on form tonight.

In the absence of Dua Lipa, he asked the crowd to take on backing vocals for the modern re-working of Cold Heart and they Dua-ly obliged.

  13. That's all of Elton's special guestspublished at 22:30 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

    Mark Savage
    Music correspondent at Glastonbury

Elton promised four special guests, so that’s everyone: Jacob Lusk, Stephen Sanchez, Brandon Flowers and Rina Sawayama.

No Britney, no Dua, no Eminem, no Harry Styles.

I suspect that’s a let-down for certain sections of the audience, maybe even the majority.

But his commitment to championing the next generation of talent is admirable.

Now it's a role that many people have taken on in fancy dress and karaoke down the years, but rising British-Japanese pop star Rina Sawayama is doing it for real.

She's just impressively performed the Kiki Dee part on the 1976 Elton duet Don't Go Breaking My Heart.

They shared a big hug afterwards.

"I love you so much Elton, everyone loves you," she beamed afterwards, to loud cheers and chants of "Elton, Elton!"

If you liked that you can catch her equally powerful solo performance from last night on the iPlayer.

  15. How big is the Pyramid Stage audience?published at 22:22 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

We know many of you are keen to know how many people are in the massive crowd for Sir Elton John, especially as there's word it could be Glastonbury's biggest ever.

We've just asked Mark Savage, our music correspondent who is there, and he thinks it could be 120,000 - but of course, it's impossible to tell exactly.

Dolly Parton's set in 2014 was hailed at the time by organiser Emily Eavis as the biggest she had ever seen.

While Stephen Sanchez may have been a new name for some people, Brandon Flowers of Killers-fame will be familiar to most.

The Vegas band headlined Glasto themselves for a second time in 2019.

The presidential-looking singer, dressed in his best bergundy suit, has swapped Mr Brightside for Tiny Dancer for this duet.

Sir Elton explained he was the first person to ask to perform with him tonight.

So there you kids, don't ask, don't get.

Elton enjoyed it so much his trousers fell down at he end. "We don't want that on the BBC," he joked.

  17. Candle in the Wind rings outpublished at 22:10 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

We've just had Your Song, one of Elton's classics, and now here's one that everyone must recognise.

Sir Elton's just started playing Candle in the Wind. Originally written about Marilyn Monroe, he famously played a re-written version of the song at Princess Diana's funeral in 1997.

Behind Sir Elton on the piano are visuals of Marilyn Monroe as he plays.

Sir Elton paused proceedings to explain how he wanted to share this biggest of stages with some newer artists, "save for one person" (who might that be? Stay tuned).

Nashville-based singer-songwriter Stephen Sanchez then joined him to sing his own song, Until I Found You - one that the main man has no doubt played on his Apple Music radio show.

Addressing the biggest crowd of his life, Sanchez said he was "so grateful for the love and kindenss you [the UK] have shown me".

Turning to Elton he said: "What good is a hero if they are not kind?

"You are my hero because you are kind."

We're not quite sure yet if Sir Elton has drawn the biggest Glasto crowd ever, but he can't be far off.

He certainly drew in Dave from Manchester and his brother, who sent us this picture, which we think captures the sheer size of the spectacle perfectly.

    Enjoy lads.

  20. Meanwhile, on the other stages...published at 21:51 British Summer Time 25 June 2023

If Elton John's not quite your thing, don't worry - there's still a lot more happening around Glastonbury.

American rock band Queens of the Stone Age are taking to the Other Stage right now and bringing Sunday to a close there.

Elsewhere, Alt-J are headlining the Park Stage, Rudimental are getting started on the West Holts Stage and Phoenix are lighting up Woodsies.

If you are in the UK you can watch streams from different stages at the top of this page and catch up on all the latest performances via BBC iPlayer.
