  7. When was America great?published at 02:16 Greenwich Mean Time 9 February 2016

Some of the US presidential candidates have said they "want to make America great again".

So we asked residents of New Hampshire: "When was America the best version of itself?"

  8. A rooster touring to support Bernie Sanderspublished at 17:22 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2016

We ran into Mark Buckley in a parking lot in Durham at the University of New Hampshire. Mark was stringing up an old American flag to the side of his Bernie Sanders-themed bus when we approached him.

Our team did a few days of research during the lead up to Pop Up's New Hampshire trip. So we recognised the New England native from our internet searches -- mostly because Mark had been featured in several papers for touring the US with a pet rooster named Mr Clucky.

"He's in the bus. Let me go get him!" he yelled, dropping what he was doing.

"Would you like a picture with the two of us? Mr Clucky has been sick lately – but he's feeling better now."

We did want a picture. But we also wanted to take 360 video of his unusual home on wheels.

We agreed to meet two days later at his home in the dirt road-laden mountains of New Hampshire, an hour outside of Manchester.

Below is a 360 video of our meeting with Mark. If you watch it on a computer, click and drag the video frame around with your mouse. Or if you're on a tablet or mobile phone, move your screen around to see the different angles of the video.

  10. BBC Pop Up taxi teaserpublished at 02:33 Greenwich Mean Time 5 February 2016

We kicked off our coverage of the US presidential election race today in New Hampshire. In case you don't know, it's the next state, after Iowa, where people will vote for who they want to be the Democratic and Republican candidates for President. We launched a one-day-only 'BBC Pop Up taxi service' here. The goal of the project was to pick up supporters of some of the candidates and offer them free rides in exchange for their thoughts on who they had chosen to support.

We used several small cameras to capture the interviews, while attempting to stream live video from inside the car to the mobile application Periscope. The thinking was that people from around the world would be able to pose questions to those in our car while we drove. Though we did receive questions as far away as Pakistan, service was spotty.

  12. Why do hundreds still flock each night to this decades-old LA roller rink?published at 16:08 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2016

Matt , externalhere. I'm off the road for the moment and living in my new home of Southern California. BBC Pop Up is headed up and down the East Coast of the US soon to cover the primary elections. But before we do, I thought I'd test out a few new filming techniques with a story on this rollerway.

    From the BBC website:

Once a staple of American youth during the last century, many roller skating rinks in the US now struggle to pull in a crowd. But the bright green walls of Moonlight Rollerway in Glendale, California still see hundreds of skaters on weekend nights, with crowds often lining up well in advance of the rink's opening on any given night.

The rink has also become a popular filming location for television shows and movies, like the recent film Straight Outta Compton.

"We've been successful because we haven't changed much since the 1950s," says Moonlight Rollerway owner Dominic Cangelosi, who also plays the organ. BBC's Matt Danzico visited the rink.

    Porter Ranch, California

Nearly 2,500 homes have been left behind in the Los Angeles neighbourhood of Porter Ranch

Watch the video created by Pop Up chief Matt Danzico using the black box at the bottom of this post.

    From the BBC website:

In October, a well on one of the US's largest natural gas repositories sprung a leak, beginning a months-long saga that has seen the noxious gas spray out of the ground and over Los Angeles neighbourhoods.

Gas is spewing into the atmosphere at a rate so fast that the well now accounts for about a quarter of the state's total emissions of methane - an extremely potent greenhouse gas.

The well is situated in a mountainous area more than a mile away from residential areas, but residents have complained of health effects like headaches, nausea, vomiting and trouble breathing...

We set up a stand last year in a South Dakota market in order to meet locals and ask them what stories they wanted us to cover

We spent December of last year in the frozen US state of South Dakota.

To kick things off in Sioux Falls, we set up a stand at a local market and asked residents shopping for produce "what stories they'd like the BBC to film while in town".

We ended up creating videos on topics ranging from underground metal and rap music to Native American youth.

I, external recently shot a video on whether climate change is affecting residents of Southern California. To create the video, I used typefaces, aesthetics and music used in 1960s advertising and surf videos.

Even some of the colour grading in this BBC climate change video was meant to mimic the style of early surf films.

BBC Pop Up typically crowdsources ideas for its stories – taking suggestions from local residents via town meetings or social media, external. Though the idea for this climate change video was not suggested to us, we've been using the Pop Up brand to experiment with new ideas while we're off the road. For another example, here's a vertical video, external on neon bike crews in Venice Beach, California.
