  3. Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn criticised over votepublished at 10:18

    A Welsh Labour MP has accused Jeremy Corbyn of wanting members to "vote against our conscience" and oppose Syrian air strikes.

    Caerphilly's Wayne David blasted the party leader's handling of the issue, saying he had been "dragged screaming" to allow a free vote.

    Twenty of Wales's 25 Labour MPs and three Plaid Cymru MPs rejected the plan.

    But Mr David was one of four Welsh Labour MPs to join 11 Welsh Tories in supporting David Cameron's proposals.

    European papers have covered the House of Commons vote widely, with German papers often setting it in the context of Friday's Bundestag vote to approve German air strikes, BBC Monitoring reports. Die Welt's, external London correspondent Stefanie Bolzen says Britain's decision to extend air strikes to Syria "is dividing the country, and sending a signal to the German parliament".     

    French papers highlight the declarations of solidarity with France in the Commons.

    Le Monde's, external London correspondent Philippe Bernard says Mr Cameron had a "double win" by "returning Britain to the international scene, in solidarity with his Western allies", and by "exposing Labour divisions". 

    Le Figaro's, external London correspondent Florentin Collomp says Britain is "deeply divided over the prospect of a new war with a very uncertain outcome".

    Defence Secretary Michael Fallon tells the BBC the battle against Islamic State is "clearly going to be a long campaign".

    Russian pro-government Life News TV, external is critical of British air strikes in Syria.

    "The UK starts bombing Da'ish [Islamic State] without Al-Asad's consent... Cameron is apparently trying to exploit the wave of compassion for France after the Paris terrorist attacks, and understands that in this situation the legitimacy of strikes will not matter."
