Traffic disruption compounds exam stresspublished at 13:49 British Summer Time 23 June 2016
13:49 BST 23 June 2016Carol Baker contacted us from Basildon in Essex. She says her daughter, Nicola, almost missed her biology A level exam this morning because of disruption caused by the weather.
"I was driving from Basildon to East Ham to drop off my daughter, Nicola, at school. She was due to sit her biology A-level at 9am. We left the house at 6.30am. The commute usually takes an hour to get to her college. Today it took five hours.
"We got to college at 11am - her exam was meant to finish at 11.15am! I had to walk with her to the front of the school where we were met by a teacher who had to make sure Nicola didn't have contact with anyone who was sitting the exam.
"She had been crying on the commute as she was worried they wouldn't let her take it. The teachers gave her some time to compose herself, and stayed with her and kept her in isolation so that she could sit the exam."

Disruption on Southeastern train services due to floodingpublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 23 June 2016
13:44 BST 23 June 2016Southeastern trains has issued this statement: “The torrential rain and heavy thunderstorms overnight have caused significant delay across our network this morning. We know this has been very difficult for our passengers and we apologise.
“Due to this severe weather – which has seen flooding, signalling problems and a line side fire causing line closures - a number of our trains and crews have been displaced, meaning they are not where they need to be on our network in order to meet our timetable.
“We now have to try and concentrate on ensuring that we have as good a service as possible up and running for the afternoon peak in order to get our commuters back home. This means that over the next couple of hours we will need to take decisive action, which will involve cancelling, or running short a number of our trains.
“We would ask passengers to please bear with us and postpone their journeys until the early afternoon if at all possible as we work to recover and reset our services. We would advise any passengers who have seen their journey delayed by 30 minutes or more to please claim compensation via our Delay Repay scheme. Details can befound on our website, external.”

It said the building will be closed over the weekend, so that repairs can be made, and will reopen again early next week.

12:59 BST 23 June 2016It's been a testing time for drivers after flooding blocked several major routes earlier.

"Alternative routes have become badly affected by the sheer volume of vehicles as drivers try to avoid the jams, and sadly this has led to yet more breakdowns."
