    A candlelit vigil is about to begin in Cardiff to pay tribute to the victims of the attack.

    Similar but on a smaller scale to the one held in London, the vigil will be held outside the Senedd in Cardiff Bay from 17:30 GMT.

    Khalid Masood spent some time working in Saudi Arabia, the BBC has confirmed. This is understood to have been around 2008.

    Bob and Christine Carney were neighbours in Clapham of Leslie Rhodes, 75, the fourth victim of Westminster attacker Khalid Masood.

    They were with him in hospital and Christine said: "We were just holding his hand, kissing him, telling him we loved him. He would have hated that, us doing that to him...we just loved him. He was a very good man, very helpful... Argumentative sometimes but we loved him anyway." 

    Bob added that Mr Rhodes "wouldn't ask anything for anything... if he found a phone on the floor he'd take it to the police station."

    Steffan Harries knows Khalid Masood's mother and stepfather, Janet and Philip Ajao, who live in Carmarthenshire.

    He says: "At first it was a great shock but as the day's gone on I think there's a great feeling of sympathy amongst the neighbourhood and the surrounding area towards Mr and Mrs Ajao.

    "They haven't been, from what I understand, in any sort of contact with their son for well over 20 years. And at the end of the day, when it comes to terrorism, unfortunately nobody can be responsible for the action of their children."

    St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington, which has treated eight people injured in Wednesday's attack, has sent three patients home.

    A spokesperson from Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust said "we are continuing to treat five patients".

    One of the largest mosques in Birmingham, the Green Lane Masjid, has condemned Wednesday's attack. It called it a "sick and depraved act of terrorism".

    "Islam, along with other religions, exalts the sanctity of human life. There is no justification for such a barbaric act on innocent people.

    "Our response to this incident will only strengthen our ongoing work in exposing deviant extremist ideologies and to ensure that we safeguard vulnerable individuals susceptible to radicalisation and help recognise the real threat of terrorism in whatever form it manifests."

    Travis Frain was hit by the attacker's car when he was walking over Westminster Bridge and went over its bonnet.

    The 19-year-old from Darwen, Lancashire met Prince Charles during his visit to King's College Hospital.

    He has a fractured leg and left arm, cuts to his thigh and two broken fingers.

  8. Hotel manager says attacker 'checked out peacefully'published at 15:41 Greenwich Mean Time 24 March 2017

    Khalid Masood stayed at the Preston Park Hotel in Brighton before he travelled to Westminster to launch his attack.

    The hotel's manager, Sabeur Tuomi, said he was "joking and smiling" and "checked out peacefully".

    London Mayor Sadiq Khan is to scale back visits to European capitals next week in light of the Westminster attack. 

    Berlin, Madrid and Warsaw are no longer on the itinerary. 

    A spokesman for the mayor said: "The mayor will proceed with visits to Brussels and Paris.

    "They are two cities with a very close relationship with London and, with Article 50 due to be triggered next week, he will be making a keynote speech and attending a series of important meetings with key politicians and officials, during which both Brexit and security issues will be discussed."

    Prince Charles has praised the efforts of staff at King's College Hospital in London.

    During his visit to victims of the attack, the Prince of Wales told the staff: "Thank you for all your marvellous efforts. 

    "How you do it, I don't know." 

    He then hailed their team work and joked: "As long as you're still talking to each other."

    Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis told the vigil of faith leaders outside Westminster Abbey that people of all beliefs are united in their grief.

    "We stand here together, leaders of Christianity, Islam and Judaism. We have come here in friendship on behalf of our communities.

    "We extend our condolences to the families of those murdered. We pray for those who have been injured...and we proclaim: 'No person and no event will drive a wedge between us. Together we will prevail.'"

    He was speaking alongside Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Sheikh Ezzat Khalifa, Sheikh Mohammad al Hilli, and Cardinal Vincent Nichols, the Archbishop of Westminster.

    Leslie Rhodes was from Clapham, south London, not Streatham as first reported, the Met has confirmed.

    The 75-year-old retired window cleaner died in hospital last night after being injured on Westminster Bridge.

    Six of the people injured in the attack are in a critical condition in hospital.

    The Met Police say two of these have life-threatening injuries.

    At least 50 people were hurt in Wednesday's incident when Masood drove his car into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge and crashed into railings outside the Houses of Parliament. 

    He then got out of the car and stabbed PC Palmer before being shot dead.

    The acting head of the Metropolitan Police has referred to the attack in Westminster while addressing new recruits at a passing out parade held at Hendon.

    "This has been an awful week for London and for the policing family you are joining," Craig Mackey said.

    He said PC Keith Palmer "died protecting Parliament and our democracy".

    "At moments like this, rare though they are, it is natural to be afraid and to despair at the inhuman violence we have seen. But it is at moments like these that you truly appreciate the strength of the policing family."

    Khalid Masood was named as the man responsible for the Westminster attack yesterday. 

    He has previously been known by a number of aliases including Adrian Elms and Adrian Russell Ajao.
