    One man was killed and another eight have been injured after a van drove into pedestrians in north London.

    The incident happened shortly before 00:20 BST on Monday, 19 June, when the vehicle mounted the pavement outside the Muslim Welfare House on Seven Sisters Road, near Finsbury Park Mosque.

    The atmosphere is one of anger here this morning.

    Many people I've spoken to feel there has been a different response to the Westminster and London Bridge attacks.

    "It's as if nobody cares as much because it was a mosque.. the reaction is completely different. That's the feeling I get," one man said.

    One man asked me "what will be next? The government need to do something. You don't know where will be next. It's getting out of hand."

    BBC Radio 4 Today reporter Zoe Conway is the scene. She says all is currently quiet in the area, apart from sound of a police helicopter above, and there is a small crowd gathered behind the cordon.

    She said witnesses told her the group of people who were hit had been tending to an elderly man, who happened to have been taken ill.

    He had fallen down on to the pavement and was being attended to, when a white van came along, at speed, and hit them.

    She described a very shaken group of people.

    Home Secretary Amber Rudd has responded to the incident, saying: "My thoughts are with all those affected by the appalling incident at Finsbury Park.

    "I am in contact with the Metropolitan Police who have confirmed it is being investigated by their counter-terrorism command.

    "We must all continue to stand together, resolute, against all those who try to divide us and spread hate and fear."

    Eyewitnesses have said the suspect was detained by people at the scene until police arrived.

    Abdul Rahman told the BBC he saw the van driver "deliberately run over about 10 or 15 people".

    Mr Rahman said he and another man then got the suspect to the ground and held him down for 20 to 30 minutes before police arrived.

    A woman who lived nearby the incident has described seeing people on the floor in the immediate aftermath of the attack.

    "At least, like, three or four injured people on the pavement being treated by the police and being helped by police. I saw at least two people on the floor.

    "It didn't look good because I saw police officers doing cardiac massage on one of them until the ambulance arrived and the paramedics arrived... so it looked really bad."

    The Muslim Council of Britain has called for extra security around mosques.

    The council's secretary general, Harun Khan, said he expected authorities to step up security "as a matter of urgency", adding many would feel "terrorised" following the incident outside the Muslim Welfare House in Seven Sisters Road.

    The sun is coming up in North London, with the area still cordoned off.

    Finsbury Park is a busy transport hub, with two Tube lines running through it (Victoria and Piccadilly), plus a mainline station serving the commuter belt.

    Transport for London has confirmed that there will be normal service on the Tube this morning, but the Seven Sisters Road entrance to the station will be closed.

    Seven Sisters Road itself is also closed to traffic.
