    Lincolnshire Police say every major route across the county is blocked due to drifting snow and freezing temperatures. People are urged not to travel

    Stagecoach East Midlands has suspended all rural services across Lincolnshire.

    And flights from East Midlands Airport are on hold as they try to clear snow and ice from the runway.

    On the roads, the A52 between Boston and Skegness is one of the worst affected routes with people stuck in their cars and others being forced to take shelter at Skegness Fire Station.

    The A15 running between Lincoln and Scunthorpe has been completely closed since yesterday evening.

    More than 700 schools across Wales have closed today - mostly in the south.

    Hundreds of schools - from Monmouthshire to Ceredigion - have shut their doors as freezing weather and snow is expected to hit this morning.

    Many will also close tomorrow on advice from the local authority.

    Here's a round-up of the problems affecting the London Underground and Overground:, external

    Bakerloo line: Minor delays due to the absence of train staff.

    Central Line: Minor delays due to an earlier faulty train.

    Jubilee Line: Minor delays due to an earlier faulty train.

    Northern Line: Minor delays between Morden and Camden Town via Bank northbound only due to an earlier faulty train at Morden. GOOD SERVICE on the rest of the line.

    Piccadilly Line: No service between Oakwood and Cockfosters while we fix a faulty train at Cockfosters. GOOD SERVICE on the rest of the line. London Underground tickets are being accepted on local bus services between Oakwood and Cockfosters.

    London Overground: Minor delays between Stratford and Richmond / Clapham Junction due to a shortage of available trains.

    Heavy snow has caused major disruption for rail passengers across the country.

    Here is the latest travel advice from National Rail:, external

    • TransPennine Express services are currently unable to run between Preston and Glasgow Central and also between Preston and Edinburgh
    • Virgin Trains are unable to run north of Carlisle. Edinburgh, Haymarket, Glasgow Central, Motherwell and Lockerbie will not be served until at least midday
    • All lines have reopened between Reading and Ascot
    • There is disruption between Broxbourne and Hertford East until at least 10:00 GMT
    • An amended timetable is in effect between Redhill and Reigate, check times before you travel

    Drivers were forced to spend the night in their vehicles on motorways in Scotland after heavy snowfall left them stranded.

    Motorists on the M80 - one of Scotland's busiest motorways - as well as the M876 complained of being stuck overnight.

    The UK is set for a third day of disruption after another night of snowfall and freezing temperatures.

    A red warning for snow, external - meaning the risk to life is likely - is in place in Scotland until 10:00 GMT, while Storm Emma is set to move into the south of the UK.

    Here are the latest weather-related disruptions:

    • Rail users have been warned not to travel to or from Scotland and dozens of stations in Kent are closed
    • Glasgow airport will stay closed until 11:00
    • The M80 and M876 motorways are closed: the M80 in both directions
    • Major routes in Lincolnshire are impassable

  15. Police confirm death in south-east Londonpublished at 18:50 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    Scotland Yard has said that a man, believed to be in his 60s, has died in hospital after being pulled from the water at Danson Park, in Welling, south east London.

    A spokesman said: "His next of kin are aware. The death is being treated unexplained."

  16. Young boy rescued from frozen lake in Essexpublished at 18:49 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    A young boy who ran onto a frozen lake got stranded when the ice started to break up.

    A friend phoned 999 and firefighters were able to rescue the boy using inflatable sledges.

    Area manager for Essex Fire Service Tony Clark warned: "There is just no way you can tell if the ice can take your weight or not - by the time you find out it can't, it's too late.

    "Our warning to people is to not go on icy ponds or lakes in any circumstances, just by taking one step onto the ice you are risking your life - it's simply not worth it."

  17. AA sees rise in weather-related insurance claimspublished at 18:40 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    A third of claims made to the AA on Tuesday were weather-related and the proportion is rising today.

    The roadside recovery and insurance group estimates that yesterday 2,500 private cars were involved in accidents incurring damage totaling £3m.

    Incidents recorded by the AA include one driver losing control going down hill and another failing to see an oncoming car due to the heavy snowfall.

  19. What will the weather do tomorrow?published at 18:32 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    The winter weather is expected to continue for the rest of the week.

    It will be a cold start to Thursday with temperatures falling well below freezing and road surfaces could be slippery.

    Scotland will experience scattered snow showers in the east and central lowlands.

    Those in the south-west of England will get a quiet start before snow starts moving in from the English Channel.

    By Thursday evening the snow will start moving through the Midlands, Wales and Northern Ireland.
