During the walkabout, lucky royal fan Jane Toffolo not only spoke to Prince William - but found herself a new job.

As Prince Harry shook as many hands as he could, greeting well-wishers who had camped out since Tuesday, his elder brother had a cheeky request for Jane.

"He said he was after a new babysitter and asked if we could do it - he said it to all of us," Jane recounted afterwards.

And what did she reply? "Of course!"

Rick Dormer and Nicola Dormer from Salisbury stood next to a lucky young royal fan, also called William, who spoke to Prince William.

While Rick shook the prince’s hand, he didn’t get the high five that 10-year-old William received when he told the prince about their shared name.

The two spoke extensively about football and Prince William’s favourite team Aston Villa.

“When Prince William found out the young boy’s name was also William, he said ‘well you’re the most important person here!’” said Mrs Dormer.

For the thousands of well-wishers who’ve been in Windsor all day the surprise walk-about by Prince Harry the night before his wedding was a real treat to say the least.

He and his brother Prince William spent around 10 minutes under the warm evening sun chatting to the crowds.

Well-wisher Janice Barnes got to shake Prince William’s hand and said he told her mum “that he needed a babysitter for tonight”.

Prince Harry looked very relaxed, often leaning right into the crowds and shaking hands.

He was handed a teddy by one well-wisher and spent most of his time kneeling down to speak to the many excited children.

As he left to go back through the castle gates he was asked whether he was ready for his wedding. He smiled and replied “of course”.

Every royal wedding is different. But every royal wedding is an opportunity, in some way, to relaunch the Royal Family.

Big weddings like this come along pretty rarely and they are now the object of global fascination.

So it represents a great opportunity to say: "This is who the Royal Family are these days."

But this is a very different royal wedding.

A Sheffield schoolgirl who survived the Manchester Arena attack has invited the grandmother of one of the victims to attend the royal wedding with her.

Instead of asking her mother, 12-year-old Amelia Thompson asked Sharon Goodman to attend Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding this weekend.

Mrs Goodman lost her granddaughter Olivia Campbell-Hardy in the bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in May 2017.

Amelia said she made the gesture "just to put a smile on her face".

  14. Off to spend the night in Windsor Castlepublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 18 May 2018

    Marjorie Ashworth entering Windsor Castle

Marjorie Ashworth, from Malden in Essex, is on her way to spend the night in Windsor Castle.

"I have a friend who lives and works at the castle, and I’m going to the royal wedding! I’m so excited, I just can’t tell you," she says.

"It’s not an invite to the wedding itself - we’re not going into the chapel or anything like that, it’s an invite to stand in a privileged place inside the castle."

Mrs Ashworth will be in the Horse Shoe Cloister tomorrow where she says people who have been invited and people who are friends of residents will be standing.

"It’s all just mind-bending. I love it - I love it all. I’m a passionate royalist and I’ve just been so excited about this from the day of the engagement."

She thinks Harry and Meghan are well-suited and obviously seem to be in love, adding: "I think their love has spilled over to everybody - look at all these crowds!"

On Prince Charles walking the bride down the aisle, she says: "Brilliant choice. I’m very, very happy about that.

"I’m sure [Prince Charles] is too, having never had a daughter. I think that’ll be a huge honour for him."

  15. St George's Chapel - why wed there?published at 17:12 British Summer Time 18 May 2018

Put simply, it's an intimate setting that's still fit for a royal.

The chapel in Windsor Castle holds about 800 people compared to 2,000 at Westminster Abbey where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge tied the knot in 2011.

Being inside the castle's grounds, it provides the family with a bit of privacy as the grounds are surrounded by the Horseshoe Cloisters and the Henry VIII gate.

In 1984, three-month-old Prince Harry was christened there.

It has also been used for numerous royal weddings - the most recent being for the prince's cousin, Peter Phillips, who married Autumn Kelly in 2008.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry's father - the Prince of Wales - had his blessing at the chapel after he married the Duchess of Cornwall at a civil ceremony in Windsor's Town Hall over ten years ago.

The Earl of Wessex and the Countess of Wessex also tied the knot at St George's Chapel.

Meghan and Harry are likely to pose for photographs after the ceremony on the steps outside the castle.

But he's not the only one familiar to Ms Markle - as she was baptised by the archbishop, Justin Welby, earlier this year.

  17. Clooney's hairdresser drops 'hint'published at 16:34 British Summer Time 18 May 2018

The man rumoured to be behind Meghan Markle's wedding hair style is probably not nervous. That's because commentators say he is Amal Clooney's personal hairdresser.

Royal Correspondent at Vanity Fair and The Mail on Sunday, Katie Nicholl, attaches a screen grab from Miguel Perez's Instagram - showing a picture of a model with hair a surprisingly similar shade and style to the bride's.

Of course we will not know who is in charge of her glossy locks or what they will look like until tomorrow.

“Excited, excited, excited, is what we are!”

Two women wearing - what has now become the usual sight in Windsor - union flag outfits - are talking to one of many reporters here.

Behind them sits the castle, in front of them a line of shops that, for the past few days, have been connected by bunting.

On top of the stores, lucky residents sit beside wide open windows, drinks in hand, looking at the view that many have camped out for - the road leading to the castle gate.

The other buildings have bright lights and news correspondents’ backs lining their balconies - the lights look unexpectedly stark on this sunny day.

All eyes peer inside every car that drives by, looking for and hoping for, a glimpse of the royals.

Two women take a defiant selfie in front of the castle despite an officer reminding them to “keep it moving please!”

Police cars, motorcycles and officers on foot line the road to the castle gate.
