  1. 'Excitement in the atmosphere'published at 11:40 British Summer Time 19 May 2018

The weather in Windsor is every bride-to-be’s dream.

The crisp morning is slowly turning into a warm summer day.

If the build-up to the wedding saw some of the worst things that could happen to a bride - notably the father of the bride’s heart attack - the actual day is going without a glitch.

All the screens, which were erected a few days ago, have been turned on and show celebrity guests arriving at St George’s Chapel.

Police seem alert, calm and under control.

The energised crowds break in to applause every now and then, using any opportunity - such as police walking by, or the arrival of George and Amal Clooney - to clap and cheer.

Children with Union Jack hats run around parents who are keeping an eye on the screens, while chatting away excitedly.

Amid the search for a “good spot” and the waving of good flags, lots of selfies are being taken on smart phones.

There is a tangible excitement in the atmosphere. Well-wishers - young and old - are united in their shared giddiness.

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have taken their seats in the chapel, as has the Princess Royal.

The sisters are wearing slightly more low-key hats than they did at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Jo Elvin, who is sitting with the BBC News team, has described what little we have seen of the dress, through a car window, as "very romantic... much more demure than I was expecting".

She observed that the dress appeared to have a boat neckline and said the bride's hair looked to be in a low bun.

  5. Just half an hour to go before the weddingpublished at 11:30 British Summer Time 19 May 2018

Most of the guests have arrived and Meghan Markle is on her way - the countdown is on.

Meghan Markle is to process alone along the aisle, says the BBC's Huw Edwards.

When she gets to the Quire section, she will be joined by Prince Charles, who will accompany her as she approaches Prince Harry.

There's a "feast of music" in the chapel, says Huw Edwards, adding that there is a "very English flavour" to the orchestral music currently being played by musicians from the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the English Chamber Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra.

My daughter Isabella, 13, is glad she didn’t camp out - as she’s getting a bit bored - but she still thinks it will be worth it.

“It’s not every day you get to see a prince,” she says.

Her 10-year-old sister Francesca isn’t worried about missing out.

She’s already made a deal with the woman who came early to squeeze in to the barrier when the royals come past.

And their cousin Lucy, nine, has the right idea about how to keep the crowd friendly...

On the Long Walk it’s a sea of red, white and blue in the sunshine. Now and again a cheer goes up as a line of police officers walk up to take their places on duty or when the crowd sees the Long Walk on the big screens.

Someone’s trying to get a Mexican wave going but it’s not taking off yet.

The biggest queues are for the coffee stalls and Pimms bus but everyone’s sharing stories about how far they’ve come, from as far apart as Texas to Teddington.

Three friends have come from County Durham to claim their spot and to catch a glimpse of the happy couple.

Elizabeth Cranston, 70, said: “We came for the atmosphere. We love the royal family.”

Her friend Ann Hood said of Meghan: “She’s a breath of fresh air.”

For Susanne McNally it’s all about the royal couple. She said: “You can see they are so in love.”

Meanwhile the coffee queue isn’t moving very far. Maybe the line for the cocktails would have been a better bet...

    Sir Elton John

Sir Elton John and his husband David Furnish have arrived at the wedding.

It had long been rumoured that the singer would attend after he cancelled some of the final dates of his residency in Las Vegas, which would have clashed with the big day.

The question is, will he perform at the reception...?
