    Former UKIP leader Nigel Farage says Downing Street has made it a "red line" that Donald Trump does not meet him.

    Asked if Mr Farage would see the president in Scotland or play golf with him, he said: "I'm not."

    Previously, as president-elect, Mr Trump has said Mr Farage would make a good British ambassador to the US.

    Leader of the Liberal Democrats Sir Vince Cable accuses Mr Trump of trying to weaken Nato consistently throughout his presidency.

    He says he understood Mr Trump had told the French that he was considering American withdrawal.

    "It's part of a pattern where he is trashing all the international co-operative relationships which we need as a country", including the World Trade Organization, the UN, the EU and the international agreement on climate change, he said.

    American Embassy staff and their families have reportedly met President Trump this afternoon in a line-up.

    Seen leaving the ambassador's residence, the staff and families were smiling broadly, looking excited and happy.

    One female member of staff, who did not want to be named, said: “It was a wonderful moment.”

    One line coming out is that he was being “complimentary towards our allies”.

    A large police presence is building outside Blenheim Palace ahead of Mr Trump’s arrival later.

    Police vans have lined the road into Woodstock, in Oxfordshire, and officers can be seen on every street corner.

    Protesters bearing placards with slogans like “Love Trumps Hate” and “Yes We Can” are also starting to arrive, ahead of a planned demonstration at 17:30 BST.

    Conservative leader of Oxfordshire County Council Ian Hudspeth said he thought it was “a great honour” to have Donald Trump visiting the county.

    He said he respected people’s right to protest, but added: “We’ve got to remember he was elected, he is president of the US and I think we need to honour that.”

    Mr Trump and First Lady Melania are currently at Winfield House, the US ambassador's residence in Regent's Park. They were there for a meet-and-greet and are expected to stay for a few hours.

    They'll travel to Blenheim Palace near Woodstock, Oxfordshire, later this afternoon. where Prime Minister Theresa May is hosting a black tie dinner in the Trumps' honour. Other guests will include some of the UK's top business leaders, about 150 people are set to attend.

    The Trumps return to London tonight and are staying at Winfield House as guests of US ambassador Woody Johnson.

    Tomorrow, President Trump and Mrs May will watch a UK military exercise together before travelling to Chequers for bilateral talks. From there, they go to Windsor to meet the Queen.

    For the final leg of their trip, the US first couple fly to Scotland to spend the weekend at the Trump Turnberry golf resort.

    The president's time in Scotland is not counted as part of the working visit.

    London Mayor Sadiq Khan famously clashed with Mr Trump after he criticised the mayor's response to the London Bridge terror attack last summer.

    Today, Mr Khan's written in London's free paper, stressing the protests are not anti-American.

    The US Embassy in London has warned Americans, external currently in the UK to "keep a low profile" and "exercise caution" due to the large-scale protests planned over Mr Trump's visit.

    The embassy statement tells them to:

    • • Exercise caution in large gatherings
    • • Keep a low profile
    • • Monitor local media and police for updates

    Friday's march in London is expected to be the largest of these protests.

    Earlier, we thought that the giant inflatable depicting President Trump as a baby could be heading to one of his Scottish golf courses (see 13:47 entry).

    That idea bubble has now burst.

    Police Scotland refused the request to allow the helium balloon - which stands at 6m (20ft) high - to fly over the Trump Turnberry golf course.

    They said it wouldn't be allowed because an air exclusion zone is in place while the president visits.

    However, they said they would be happy to discuss other options for the balloon - perhaps it may fly at one of the other protests in Scotland.

    A banner branding Donald Trump a "human rights nightmare" is unveiled on a London bridge, opposite the US Embassy.

    Amnesty International unfurled the 15-metre banner on Vauxhall Bridge in time for the US president's arrival over London.

    Kate Allen, from the charity, hopes Theresa May will discuss Mr Trump's track record on human rights in the coming days.

    Eric Trump, who's in Scotland awaiting his father's arrival there this weekend, says the UK is a "big part" of the president's life.

    The 34-year-old is executive vice-president of the Trump Organisation and oversees its golf resorts.
