The focus of the day was of course on the couple; an unsurprisingly nervous groom, his hand shaking at times, his gaze twitching as he waiting for his bride. A beaming Princess, unable to control her joy.
There was more; flawless organisation, hat dysfunction as the wind blew and blew, hatchets buried as the Duke of Edinburgh settled into a seat in near Sarah, Duchess of York with whom he has had a frosty - sometimes frozen - relationship.
But most noticeable at Windsor? The applause that followed the national anthem, and the cheers for the Queen as she left the Chapel. No-one eclipses the Queen in the affections of the British public.

A lipreader claims Princess Eugenie led the way with her new husband as they appeared on the steps of St George's Chapel.
Tina Lannin said the bride initiated the couple's two tentative kisses on the West Steps, telling Jack Brooksbank "let's kiss" before the waiting cameras.
During the readings at the ceremony, Princess Eugenie also jokingly asked: "Why aren't you holding my hand?"
This lucky soul shared her invitation on Twitter...

Prince Philip "took quite a big step" towards reconciliation with the Duchess of York at today's wedding, according to a body language expert.
Judi James said the Duke of Edinburgh was warm towards Sarah Ferguson and approached her with a smile, despite reported tensions between the pair after her divorce from Prince Andrew.
"You could tell the tension as soon as the duchess arrived in the church," she said.
"As soon as she walked in she pulled her arms into her side and put her head down."
But, she continued: "She got quite the look from Philip, he smiled at her at least twice, almost as if he had planned to greet her warmly.
"That was quite a big step for the Duke of Edinburgh."
The duchess may not have been aware, however, as she was seated with her back to him.
"Unless she had eyes in the back of her head, she wouldn't have known," said Ms James.
"She probably didn't want to take the risk of turning round."

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank's wedding was attended by the majority of the royal family. But there was one very conspicuous absentee, the Duchess of Cornwall.
Prince Charles's wife was actually in Scotland to visit a village school.
The Duchess of Rothesay, as she is known in Scotland, had a longstanding invitation to the school in Aberdeenshire.
Maeve Henry, from Amersham, brought her three-year-old daughter Elise Bright to Windsor as the little girl is “obsessed with princesses”.
Elise said of Princess Eugenie: “She looked pretty.”
Maeve added: “Elise loved it. It was a very nice calm day out.
"Harry’s was chaos but this was really nice: there wasn’t much of a spark, and I wouldn’t say it was electric - they could have done with some music for the crowds. But calm is the word I would use to describe it.”
Here are some more views from the crowds at Windsor, where it’s estimated about 3,000 gathered to cheer Princess Eugenie and her new husband.
Jackie Brown, from Ashford, Surrey, said: “I’m such a royal fan. I’ve always followed them, since Charles and Anne were youngsters.
“I’d have liked to see more than just the carriage, but I’m so glad we came. We had a great time and spoke to people from all over the world.”
Georgina Moroney, from Swindon, said: “I’m a royal geek. It’s just all part of our heritage. They’re fantastic - I love the romance of it all.
“She looked so radiant.”
Here’s a picture taken by Amy Gardner who was watching and said the couple looked straight at her.
“She looked so beautiful - it was lovely. It’s definitely worth the wait," she said.
"They looked right at the camera, which was great.”
Among the crowds watching Eugenie and Jack leaving the castle in their carriage was a group of friends who’d gathered especially for the occasion.
Rachel Price-Greenow, from Hereford, admitting she had a tear in her eye watching the couple go by.
“I got emotional,” she said. “I was quite teary. It’s just lovely. I love all the pomp and sense of occasion.”
Her friend Helen Freeman, from Swansea, was wearing a home-made fascinator with the couple’s initials embroidered on top.
“It’s a royal event - and you’ve got to wear a fascinator to a wedding,” she said. “They just seem like a normal couple, which is great.”
Gemma Morgan, also from Hereford, said: “Someone in a shop here was telling us this wedding feels more like a community event - it’s really relaxed and friendly.”
Alice Smart, from Manchester, said: “They seem really sweet and humble. And it’s great to be here to celebrate this, as there’s so much unhappiness in the world.”

A passage from the book was read by Princess Beatrice during the ceremony.
Turns out it's because the novel's famous character Jay Gatsby has a special place in Princess Eugenie's relationship with Jack Brooksbank.
The Dean of Windsor said the princess had read the book not long after meeting her husband and it made her think of him.
Addressing the congregation, the dean said: "The words that particularly reminded her of Jack concern Gatsby's smile.
"As we heard from the reading 'It was one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it ... it concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favour'.
"Well, a few years have passed and Eugenie and Jack come here today to smile on each other, and to offer each other something like 'eternal reassurance' and the promise of an 'irresistible prejudice' in each other's favour."
