BBC weather presenter Stav Danaos says more disruption is possible due to ice overnight, but he says the heavy snow is clearing from southern England and the weekend is expected to be bright and cold.

Delays are hitting road and rail travellers in southern England on their way home for the weekend.
Parts of Hampshire near Basingstoke are proving a particular trouble spot.
Ross Carradice, who was travelling from Southampton, tells the BBC he's been stranded on a train after a tree fell on the line - and then another fell and hit his train.
"We’ve been here an hour already and the driver says we’ll be here at least another hour," he says.
"The driver and the train manager have been outside trying to remove the tree in front of us."

Things aren't much better on the roads, where drivers are reporting gridlock around Basingstoke and long delays on the M3.
Ian Crowder has been stuck in stationery traffic since 14:30. He says: "People are standing talking to each other through the windows of cars. I think we could be here for a little while."

This snow Dalek was spotted in the market town of Marlborough.

The motorway is blocked in both directions due to a jackknifed lorry and snow between M3 (Winchester Services) and Junction 5 A287 (Hook).
There are three jackknifed lorries around Junction 6 and Junction 7.
The M3 is virtually impassable because of the snow and lorries struggling on the inclines.
Police warn not to attempt travelling around the Basingstoke area unless absolutely necessary.
Meanwhile, the M3 in Surrey is now cleared, with all lanes open, after a broken-down vehicle was removed on the M3 southbound at Junction 2 of the M25.
The Corridor shopping centre in Bath was closed on Friday after two separate roof collapses due to snow.
Large blocks of stone were pulled from the parapets above its glass roof by a pigeon net weighted down with snow, a local shopkeeper said.
There were two separate incidents, which he described as "very serious - they could easily have caused a fatality if they had hit someone".
The first was on Friday morning when members of the public were in the centre.
A second collapse happened at around 3.30pm, the witness said.
But Friday's snow meant that not many shoppers were around and no-one was hurt.

The team says it hopes to reschedule the match for Sunday at 14:30 GMT, but that it is "most likely" to be delayed until Monday at 19:45.
A final decision on the timing is due to be made on Saturday at 10:00.

The runway at Bristol Airport is now reopen after it was shut because of heavy snowfall.
The airport is preparing for a "full schedule" for Saturday.
In an earlier tweet it said the majority of the remaining flights for today have been cancelled.

A new yellow warning for the south east and south west of England warns that extra late afternoon and early evening snow may cause further disruption.
The warning is in place from 16:00 GMT to 20:00.
The Met Office says it means:
According to the forecaster, there is likely to be a further 2-3cm (1in) of snow.
In some places, particularly hills over 150m, there could be 3-7cm (1-3in).
The places covered by the warning are Bracknell Forest, Hampshire, Portsmouth, Southampton, Surrey, West Berkshire, West Sussex, Wokingham and Wiltshire.

Animals enjoy East of England snowfall
Time now for the obligatory videos of animals loving the snow.
The footage here has been captured by people in the East of England, where hundreds of schools have closed and several centimetres of snow settled.
Earlier, we posted images of some Newcastle United players throwing snowballs at training.
Not to be outdone, the Arsenal team were also captured battling it out in the wintry conditions.

Even exotic animals from warmer climates like to enjoy the snow, the animal operations manager of Whipsnade Zoo, in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, says.
Yak, wolverine and amur tigers are just some of those that enjoy the cold weather, says Matthew Webb.
They originate from climates that can be extreme, so they are very well adapted to cold spells like this, though they still have cosy, warm enclosures to live in.
He added: "You will tend to find most of these animals, even if from quite warm climates, will go outside in the snow and enjoy it."

Among the stories that have emerged from the snow chaos is that of mum Roxanne Campbell, who went into premature labour while stranded on the A30 in Bodmin, in Cornwall, on Thursday.
Pregnant Roxanne and husband Alex went into Asda as "it was the nearest place where it was warm" - but soon the contractions were coming fast.
Alex said when the contractions started he was "panicking a bit".
Store manager Lee Coshall said: "The contractions were getting closer together, I brought them down into the office.
"We got to the point where they were coming every minute and a half. So that's when we asked her to lay down and have a look and then she started breaching.
"It got to the point the baby was almost here and thankfully the paramedics did turn up."
The couple were taken to hospital and baby Amelia was born at Treliske Hospital at 20:21, weighing 5lb 5oz.
