  18. Resident: 'Storm Dennis came like a tornado'published at 10:00 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2020

A resident who lives in the hamlet of Pontrilas in South Herefordshire, close to the border with Wales, has said she's had "catastrophic" flooding for the second time in four months.

Sarah Bridge, 55, has lived in her property for five years. When she moved in she was told it had only flooded once in 50 years.

She says her neighbours are in "shock", adding: "Storm Dennis came like a tornado. It hit us very badly Saturday evening."

Despite having specialist flood doors installed after a flooding episode in October, the water "just came straight through those".

She adds: “We had the pumps going trying to pump out as much water as we could but it came up to my knees and it got too dangerous to be there.

“My husband and I retreated upstairs. It’s heartbreaking. The kitchen is completely flooded, I can hear things floating about downstairs.”
