We hope you enjoyed following our live coverage of Trooping the Colour.

Given that the rain seems to be holding off for a bit longer, we're going to try and nip out and enjoy some UV rays ourselves.

As a reminder, today marked the first time that we've seen the Princess of Wales since her cancer diagnosis and abdominal surgery in January - some more details on her cancer treatment can be found here.

If you missed any of today's "trooping", fear not, as we've got all the updates covered in our wrap of this morning's events here.

The clouds parted and the rain that had been pouring stopped right on cue for the big balcony moment for the Royal Family.

They lined up for that classic image of the royals at Buckingham Palace. The King and the Princess of Wales included.

The flypast roared overhead and the crowds looked up at the palace.

It’s all over for another year.

The forecast for today didn't deter Joseph Afrane from coming out to show his support for the Princess of Wales, in what was her first public appearance since her cancer diagnosis and abdominal surgery in January.

For the 60-year-old, having the chance to see the princess out and about was "fantastic".

In an interview with the PA news agency, Afrane said that when he first heard the news on Friday that Catherine would be at today's Trooping the Colour, his immediate reaction was: "'God, I thank you for bringing Kate back."

"I mean, it shows that she's very, very dedicated to the country," he said, adding he believed it showed how "hardworking" the princess is.

The good news didn't stop after catching a glimpse of the princess, as Afrane said that he believes he saw Catherine wave to him.

"She gave me a big wave."

The King's 2024 Birthday Honours list was announced yesterday

Trooping the Colour isn't the only mark of the King's official birthday.

The 2024 King's Birthday Honours were also announced yesterday.

This year's list included figures like Alan Bates, the former sub-postmaster who campaigned to highlight the Post Office Horizon scandal, who has been knighted, while actress Imelda Staunton, designer Anya Hindmarch and artist Tracey Emin have been made dames.

Most honours are awarded either at the start of the year or on the monarch's official birthday.

Recommendations for honours are made by the prime minister or senior government ministers - but members of the public can also put forward recommendations.

Departing prime ministers can also issue resignation honours.

You can read more about the 2024 Birthday honours here.

  5. Watch: King and Queen ride in their carriagepublished at 13:57 British Summer Time 15 June

Before the rain really began pelting down on The Mall, King Charles and Queen Camilla began today inside their carriage as part of the royal procession for the Trooping the Colour parade.

As we reported on a bit earlier, the King riding in a carriage is a departure from last year - when he inspected the officers and guardsmen on horseback.

This year, because of his own treatment for cancer, he did this from inside the coach.

You can watch the King and Queen set off from Buckingham Palace in the video clip below.

  6. In pictures: From rainy beginnings to a sunny outburstpublished at 13:41 British Summer Time 15 June

As Trooping the Colour comes to a close and the crowds begin to disperse from the puddle-covered red road of The Mall, we've pulled together some images from the last few hours.

The weather, as you can probably deduce from the today's coverage, may not have been 'picture perfect' but that certainly hasn't spoiled the many photo opportunities.

  7. Watch: King's official birthday marked at Trooping the Colourpublished at 13:28 British Summer Time 15 June

As we've mentioned earlier, the actual date of birth of King Charles is 14 November. But Trooping the Colour is the official event - filled with military pageantry - to mark the sovereign's birthday.

In the clip below, you can watch the scene from the Horse Guard's Parade, where you can see the King saluting troops as they march past.

The Royal Family gives one final wave before returning inside Buckingham Palace - and with that, Trooping the Colour officially comes to a close for one more year.

  9. Red Arrows end the display to cheerspublished at 13:09 British Summer Time 15 June

A shot of the flypast against the sun

The iconic Red Arrows aerobatic team have rounded off the flypast, leaving red, white and blue trails in their wake - with cheers from the crowd as the national anthem plays and the King and Royal Family wave on from the balcony.

The crowds below are treated to some sunshine for this grand finale, a welcome reprieve after having braved the elements.

  10. Royal Family comes onto balcony to view flypastpublished at 13:01 British Summer Time 15 June

The Royal Family looks on as the royal flypast happens from Buckingham Palace.

The RAF flypast is indeed going ahead in spite of the rain and wind that this morning's ceremony has seen.

And the Royal Family - including King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William and Princess Catherine - have come out onto the balcony to view it as the original plan had been.

As we said earlier, there's no canopy on the balcony but that hasn't deterred them from waving to the crowd below.

This marks the final event of today's proceedings but stay with us and we'll continue to bring you some of the highlights from the past couple of hours.

  11. Gun salute begins at Green Parkpublished at 12:56 British Summer Time 15 June

The gun salute at Green Park, soldiers stand in regalia.

The gun salute has just begun in Green Park - there will be 41 rounds in this gun salute today.

Why 41? As BBC commentators tell us, a 21 gun salute is the standard for a royal salute, but the 20 extra are added to today's proceedings because its taking place inside a Royal Park

The rounds will be fired at ten second intervals, which will take six minutes - leading up to the flypast over Buckingham Palace at 13:00 BST.

  12. Umbrellas, ponchos and wellies - a typical British summer's daypublished at 12:51 British Summer Time 15 June

The crowds flooding down The Mall - keen to catch a glimpse of the Royal Family from the balcony at Buckingham Palace - cannot be deterred by today's weather.

Ponchos, umbrellas and wellies are making the dress for today's Trooping the Colour what could only be described as a classically British affair.

  13. Organiser ‘very confident’ flypast will go aheadpublished at 12:42 British Summer Time 15 June

Despite today's blustery weather conditions, the man in charge of organising the iconic flypast at the end of Trooping the Colour says he is “very confident” it will take place this afternoon.

Air Vice Marshal Mark Flewin tells the BBC that a run-through earlier this month went “exceptionally well” and he “couldn’t be prouder” of those involved.

He says the aircraft involved will depart from five airbases this morning, before forming up over the North Sea.

It will end with the part “everyone is looking forward to”, he says, with the “iconic” Red Arrows flying over central London.

“It’s a great way to close out the parade,” he says.

  14. Singing in the Rain might have been more appropriatepublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 15 June

The King salutes in the pouring rain.

There is lashing rain as the parade comes back up the Mall towards Buckingham Palace.

The crowd has turned into a soaked huddle of umbrellas.

The bands are still playing military tunes although Singing in the Rain might have been more appropriate.

The balcony at Buckingham Palace doesn’t have a canopy, so unless the rain relents it could be some rather damp royals waving to the crowds below.

  15. Catherine and Charlotte wipe carriage windows to wave to the crowdpublished at 12:31 British Summer Time 15 June

Catherine and Princess Charlotte wipe the windows of their carriage as it rains.

The Princess of Wales and Princess Charlotte can be seen wiping the windows of their carriage to be able to see the crowd who are cheering as they proceed along the Mall.

They both wave out of the window after they've done so.

As the royals continue to make their way back to Buckingham Palace, there's still more to come today.

They - and the crowds gathered nearby - will be treated to the spectacle of a flypast shortly, as the RAF tell me, it is still on.

In case you are watching the pictures and have seen the torrential rain, there is also now thunder and lightning.

  17. The heavens open up as procession returns to Buckingham Palacepublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 15 June

King and Queen seen in their carriage as they make their way back to Buckingham Palace.

The Royal Family are now seated back in the carriages - well timed, too - and are ready to make their way back to Buckingham Palace where proceedings will continue.

As has been tradition for quite some time, the monarch is leading the troops at the head of the procession of carriages.

Weather permitting we are still expecting the flypast - the rain is starting to come down quite heavily now.

  18. Troops to march back to Buckingham Palacepublished at 12:13 British Summer Time 15 June

King and Queen salute at Trooping the Colour ceremony.

After receiving the official approval from the King, the troops are now beginning to march off and make their way back down the Mall as they escort the Royal Family.

We still have a gun salute, a RAF flypast and the Royal Family on the balcony to come.

  19. Final birthday salute for the Kingpublished at 12:07 British Summer Time 15 June

The national anthem is being played and all those attending have risen.
