    A national company which has its headquarters in Newquay has increased its workforce from three to 40 people in just three years.

    Jess Ratty, head of public relations at Crowdfunder UK, said they specialised in helping local entrepreneurs and community groups raise funds - and that did not have to revolve around London.

    Visitor Richard Radnor, from Alton, Hampshire described the resort as "having its charms".

    A man who set up a series of community Facebook groups, after his epilepsy left him registered disabled, said he was providing a place for people to "moan and groan" about the things that needed doing in Newquay.

    Jon Goodman said enjoyed living in the resort, which he said was completely full in summer and emptier in the winter months.

    What's affected the life of coastal towns?

    Places like the once fashionable Jaywick, near Clacton, Essex, (below) are now classed as deprived and in need of investments.

    According to the British Hospitality Association, industries such as shipbuilding and fishing have collapsed, prompting unemployment and drug use.

    Chris Epton has been working the donkeys on Skegness beach for nearly 50 years.

    He's seen some changes in his time, with some of the worst seasons being during the miners' strikes in the 1980s.

    Business slumped a little in recent years but he says it's picking up and Skeg is "booming again".

    • Famous names drawn to the east Kent coast include Charles Dickens, JMW Turner and Augustus Pugin and their connections are all still celebrated today

    Tracey Green from Wigan cares for Daniel and brings him to seaside for days out - she says accessibility can be an issue with his wheelchair.

    She says Southport "is quite flat so that's good" but having to search for disabled toilets and facilities is a disruption - and many attractions aren't accessible for Daniel.

    He did go on the big wheel at Southport Pleasureland last time though and loved it, she said.

    Like most seaside resorts, Clacton is brimming with hotels and B&Bs.

    But business is "so so" here at the moment, according to the owner of one hotel along the seafront. 

    Chairmane Gibson quit her job as a nursery nurse in Hackney, London, to take over the Pink Palace two years ago.

    "We always came to Clacton as a kid," she said. 

    "It's been a bit quiet to start with, but Clacton in general is slowly but surely picking up."

    Time for some funfair frolics - that's after I queue for my tokens at Southport's theme park which is bustling today.

    Visitors tell me there's been investment here, revamping the rides and arcades. There is also a Go Kart track and the miniature railway is being brought back to its former glory.

    The wind has brought out some kitesurfers at Hayling Island in Hampshire.
