  4. Man arrested after woman 'seriously injured' in Reading assaultpublished at 12:59 British Summer Time 25 May 2017

    A 29 year-old man from Reading has been arrested on suspicion of assault with injury, external after a woman sustained "serious injuries" during an altercation in Lorne Street.

    The indecent happened at about 04:30 on 14 May when police said a man and woman had a verbal and physical altercation.

    The woman, who is in her 30s, fell into the road and was taken to hospital by ambulance, where she remains. The man was released on bail.

  5. Heathrow runway should not cross M25, say BA ownerspublished at 12:36 British Summer Time 25 May 2017

    Heathrow Airport's new third runway should be built so it doesn't cross the M25, according to the company that owns British Airways.

    The plans suggest the motorway would pass under the runway through a tunnel, and its submission to the government's consultation on its national policy statement, which closes tomorrow, IAG warns of the scheme's cost and complexity.

    They say it will add two or three billion pounds to the cost of the project.

    Transport secretary Chris Grayling has previously said a ramp over the motorway would be "cheaper and quicker" than building a tunnel for the M25 under the new runway and would cause less disruption for drivers during construction.

    A garage in Abingdon was gutted by fire on Tuesday but firefighters stopped the blaze spreading to the next-door house.

    They were called at 18:04 to Eason Drive where a large double garage was reported to be on fire.

    Four firefighters entered the building and used high-pressure hoses to extinguish and contain the fire, then used high powered positive pressure vans to remove smoke from the building.

    Incident commander Neil Priestley said: “Fortunately the house had working smoke alarms that helped to alert the occupier to the fire.

    "Without the early detection the fire could have been even more intense and potentially spread further into the main house.”

    Motorists with dash cams are being asked to check their footage after the body of a newborn baby was found in a park.

    The girl's remains were found in Manor Park, Church Hill, in Aldershot on Friday afternoon.

    Detectives believe "Baby M" may have been delivered under a nearby oak tree sometime between 16:00 BST on Sunday 14 May and anytime on Tuesday 16 May.

    Police are asking if anyone has footage of someone "in a distressed state, walking uncomfortably or squatting or leaning against the trees opposite Kwik Fit" between these times.

    Police say there are no links with terrorism to the arrest of two men after a car was left unattended outside a barracks in Windsor.

    Officers were called to the home of the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards at Victoria Barracks at 21:00. yesterday after receiving reports of two men "acting suspiciously".

    The two suspects were arrested and later released without charge.

    Reading could make more than £290 million if they achieve promotion, according to an accountancy firm.

    Figures from Deloitte say that promotion to the Premier League for either side will see an uplift in revenue of at least £170m, rising to more than £290m if they survive their first season in the Premier League.

    A lot of that money will come from broadcast rights, central distributions and parachute payments from the League.

    The past 10 seasons to 2016/17, 60% of promoted clubs have avoided relegation in their first season in the division.

    Soldiers have been stationed at the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) sites in Berkshire.

    Troops have been deployed in Burghfield and Aldermaston as part of Operation Temperer, which allows the government to deploy soldiers to support police officers in key locations following a major terrorist attack.

    Aldermaston is responsible for making Britain's Trident nuclear warheads and stores nuclear waste from Royal Navy submarines.

    An AWE statement said: "This is a precautionary measure so that if the on-site police are requested to deploy officers away from AWE, in support of national security, the Army will step into those roles.

    "Army personnel will only be used in roles for which they are already suitably trained, and neither safety nor security at AWE will be compromised at any time."

    A police officer has been told he committed an "appalling" betrayal of trust after he was found guilty of "inappropriate" behaviour towards two teenage girls.

    Pc Keith Burgess, a neighbourhood officer, was convicted of two counts of misconduct in public office over "sexualised" messages and actions towards the girls in 2014 and 2015.

    “We demand the highest standards from all our police officers and staff and the public can rightly expect us to robustly investigate any abuse of their position of power.

    "There is no place in policing for those who ignore their professional duty and moral responsibility.”

    The instinct to swim, panic and thrash about increases the chances of water getting in the lungs and puts a strain on the heart.

    The Dorset-based charity's Ross Macleod said practising floating was a "survival skill".

    Latest figures from the charity show 162 people lost their lives on the UK coast in 2016.

    "In fact there were 10 wasps nests in this property. It was a circa 1600 building that is being renovated. Lots of old nests.

    "The most amazing thing is we are already treating wasps nests and its very early in the year for that, maybe due to the mild weather."

    Police investigating allegations of sexual offences against teenage girls in Leigh Park, Havant have arrested three men.

    The reported assaults took place between Monday and the early hours of Tuesday.

    Officers are carrying out investigations at a property in Park Parade on the housing estate.

    Police said the men, aged 20, 36, and 43, from Havant have been arrested on suspicion of a number of sexual offences.

    The force said all three remain in custody.

    Two men have been arrested after "acting suspiciously" outside a Windsor barracks.

    Thames Valley Police sent officers to Victoria Barracks in Sheet Street at 9pm yesterday where the two suspects were detained.

    A force spokesman said no-one had been injured and there was believed to be no "wider risk" to the public.

    He said: "Both men, in their 30s, have been arrested and are currently in police custody. There have been no injuries."
