    A man has been found dead following a house fire in Farnborough.

    Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to a house fire in Cumbria Court shortly after 22:00 on Thusday evening.

    The body of a 52-year-old man was found in the building and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

    Hampshire Constabulary is not treating the death as suspicious. An investigation to establish the cause is under way.

    In the aftermath of the bomb attack in Manchester on Monday, large-scale events planned for the bank holiday weekend have come under scrutiny.

    The Mutiny Festival in Portsmouth, external will go ahead as planned. Organisers said: "Our security plan is a constantly evolving plan and not a static document.

    "This plan is signed off by the police and they are happy with our plans and will be on site with us."

    Common People

    About 30,000 people are expected each day on Saturday and Sunday at the Common People Festival, external, held at two sites - Southampton Common and Oxford's South Park.

    On Tuesday, festival organiser Rob da Bank said: "We can't let these people get us down. The message is 'the show will go on'."

    A pedestrian who died when she was knocked down by a car in Portsmouth earlier this month has been named as Sheridan Harris.

    The 20-year-old who lived in Fareham died at the scene following the crash on Lake Road in the early hours of 13 May.

    A builder who absconded during his trial in which he was convicted for defrauded an elderly man of £34,500, is being sought by police.

    John Hart, 62 from Pokesdown, Bournemouth was found guilty in his absence of one count of fraud relating to building work he carried out on the man's home in Swindon between October 2013 and August 2014.

    Dorset Police appealed for information from anyone who knows his whereabouts.

    Iron drain covers in Reading are being targeted by thieves, the borough council has warned.

    Fifteen road gulley gratings have been stolen from the Tilehurst and Southcote areas in the last week.

    Reading Borough Council said it was working to replace the missing covers as quickly as possible with a new anti-theft model and warned scrap merchants to be on the alert for stolen metal.

    Bournemouth's popular Alum Chine park is set to open this Bank Holiday weekend after undergoing major improvements during the spring.

    The ‘treasure island’ themed playground, based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s famous book, features a pirate ship set within a rugged, natural seaside landscape.

    Timbers for the ship come from National Trust property Cotelle in Devon and were hauled out by heavy horse. Groyne timbers from the beach at Southbourne were also recycled into some of the planters and banking areas of the new playground.

    A man has been accused of making a series of hoax bomb threats.

    Peter Osbourne, of no fixed address, was charged with four counts of making hoax calls, Gloucestershire Police said.

    It relates to calls made on Wednesday about Wiltshire Police Headquarters, Bristol Royal Infirmary, Weymouth seafront in Dorset and Bath bus station.

    Mr Osbourne, 56, is due to appear before magistrates in Bath later. Avon and Somerset Police were also involved in the cross-border operation.

    A troubled health trust has been ordered to improve its walk-in service, after inspectors found it sometimes had no GPs available to see patients.

    Network Rail is urging passengers to check before they travel over the Bank Holiday weekend, when engineers will be carrying out work in Hampshire.

    The work involves track renewals at Portcreek Viaduct in Hampshire.

    As a result, the following changes will be in place:

    • All lines in the Portsmouth area will be closed throughout the weekend
    • The lines between Havant and Cosham will be closed on Saturday

    The troubled Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust has appointed a new chairwoman.

    Lynne Hunt was previously vice chair of Dorset Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

    The trust came under fire after Connor Sparrowhawk drowned at its Slade House facility in Oxford.

    In August 2016 Katrina Percy stepped down as head of Southern Health over "media attention" after it failed to properly investigate hundreds of deaths. Interim chairman Tim Smart was criticised after it emerged a £240,000 a year post was "created for her". He resigned in September for "personal reasons".

  18. Oxford dual carriageway reopens after car hits pedestrianpublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 26 May 2017

    The A40 was closed eastbound near the Thornhill park and Ride after a pedestrian was knocked over by a car earlier.

    It happened on London Road at the crossroads and a 21-year-old woman was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital by ambulance.

    The road has now reopened.

    Tourists will be able to see the Changing of the Guard ceremonies at Windsor Castle later.

    The ceremony was cancelled on Wednesday, along with the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, in the wake of the Manchester attack to allow police officers, who would have been controlling road closures, to be redeployed.

    A Ministry of Defence spokeswoman said today's events would go ahead as scheduled.

    A 56-year-old man has been charged in connection with four bomb hoaxes including one at Bath bus station.

    Peter Osbourne, of no fixed address, has been charged with four counts of making a bomb hoax.

    The charges relate to hoax calls made on Wednesday (May 24) about Bath bus station and the Bristol Royal Infirmary, as well as further hoaxes referring to Weymouth sea front in Dorset and Wiltshire Police Headquarters.
