    More than 150 police officers have raided properties in Teesside and South Yorkshire in a crackdown on people trafficking and sexual offences.

    The raids followed several young women reporting they had been trafficked and raped at different addresses.

    All those being held were arrested on suspicion of offences including conspiracy to rape, conspiracy to traffic and blackmail.

    Sheffield United have signed Southend United midfielder Ryan Leonard on a three-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

    The 25-year-old would have been a free agent at the end of the season.

    Leonard started his career with Plymouth Argyle before joining Southend in July 2011 and made 265 appearances for the Shrimpers.

    Police investigating a firearms incident in Doncaster want help in tracing this man.

    On 12 December, shots were reportedly fired at 20:00 in a house in Zetland Road near Doncaster Royal Infirmary causing damage to a window.

    It's understood that a white Volkswagen Golf stopped by the property and the front seat passenger got out of the car before the shots were fired.

    Nobody was injured but officers want to identify the man pictured.

    Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 981 of 12 December or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

  6. Firefighter 'lucky' after being attacked in Bradfordpublished at 17:17 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2018

    Firefighters have spoken out after they were attacked when they went to deal with a fire in Bradford yesterday.

    It happened at Warrenton Place, Lidget Green when a crew from Bradford Fire Station was called to tackle a rubbish fire at 17:45.

    Firefighter John Mellor was putting equipment back on the fire engine after putting the fire out : "I was bent down when a large bottle came across and smashed on the ground in front of me."

    “A brick hit the fire engine windscreen and two youths ran off. Fortunately I was not hurt and the fire engine was not damaged but I realise I was lucky."

    Last year West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service launched a campaign called "More Than a Uniform" to raise awareness of these attacks.

    West Yorkshire Police say they're investigating the attack.

    A man from Sheffield has appeared in court charged with terror funding offences.

    Baroodin Kazkaz, 22 of Cross Myrtle Road, Heeley is accused of sending money to another man that he knew or suspected may be used for the purposes of terrorism.

    He faces two charges, which relate to dates in 2016 and 2017.

    Mr Kazkaz, who appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London, was charged today after an investigation by the North East Counter Terrorism Unit.

    He was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on 19 January.

    Yorkshire opening batsman Adam Lyth has signed a two-year contract extension.

    The 30-year-old, who played seven Tests for England in 2015, made his debut for the Headingley side 11 years ago.

    He struggled for runs in the County Championship in 2017, but his 161 off 73 balls against Northants in the T20 Blast in August is the highest ever score in English T20 cricket.

    Elections for a South Yorkshire mayor this May should be scrapped - according to the leaders of Barnsley and Doncaster Councils.

    They're fighting for a deal which would elect a mayor for a wider Yorkshire region - which they say should happen in 2020.

    They're calling for a temporary mayor to appointed this May instead until a wider Yorkshire deal is drawn up.

  10. Yorkshire Wildlife Park set for expansionpublished at 16:19 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2018

    Proposals to expand the Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster have been approved.

    The scheme will see the site double in size as a result of the £50m development.

    As well as more land for animals, there'll be a hotel, shops, and a new access route via the new Finningley And Rossington Regeneration Route Scheme.

    CEO John Minion described it as a "major investment" which would double the workforce from 300 to 600.

    A search has been launched for this man in York after he broke the terms of his release from prison.

    Brett Vincent Lill, 46 of Flaxman Avenue, was released from prison on licence in June 2017 after being jailed in 2006 for causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

    He has breached the terms of his licence and he was recalled to prison last month.

    North Yorkshire Police have issued a warning that anyone who is helping him to avoid being arrested could also face prosecution.

    Don't forget that another day of strike action is planned on Northern trains tomorrow, affecting rail travellers across Yorkshire.

    As before, the majority of available trains will operate between 07:00 and 19:00 with 60% of the normal timetable operating.

    The 24-hour walkouts were called over separate disputes, all concerning rail safety, the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) said.

    A Department for Transport spokesman said Northern would "keep passengers moving" during the strikes.

    The UK's fourth largest supermarket, Morrisons - based in Bradford- continued to ring up growing sales over the key Christmas period.

    The chain sold 2.8% more in the 10 weeks to 7 January than it did for the same period a year earlier, not including new store openings.

    Christmas trading was particularly strong with sales for the last six weeks up 3.7% compared to a year ago.

    Morrisons' shares rose 4% in early trading following the trading update. Their share price has fluctuated over the last three months

    Sales at the online arm of the supermarket, Morrisons.com, rose by more than 10%.

    Alcohol won't be available to away fans at the Steel City derby at Bramall Lane on Friday.

    It's been decided alcoholic drinks won't be served at the away end of the ground, so Wednesday fans won't be able to drink, although United fans will.

    Police are also advising fans to turn up early because there'll be extra security checks and searches at the turnstiles.

    North Yorkshire Police is urging people to report any suspicions of a child is being neglected.

    The new campaign 'Child Neglect has NO HOME HERE' urges communities to consider what might be happening when they see a child looking hungry and tired or one who is without a suitable coat or footwear.

    The Force has released a list of signs or symptoms which, if persistent, may suggest a child is being neglected:

    • Dirtiness and/or smelliness
    • Unwashed clothes
    • Inadequate clothing (such as no winter coat or suitable footwear)
    • If the child is hungry, hasn't had breakfast or without provision for lunch
    • Persistent or untreated nappy rash in younger children

    There may be health or developmental issues and they may be exposed to housing or family issues.

    North Yorkshire Police is asking anyone with suspicions a child is being neglected to call 101, or 999 if they think the child is in immediate danger.

    The 21-year-old made his international debut for Japan in June 2017 and has won 10 caps, scoring twice.

    He has been immediately loaned to Spanish second division side Cultural Leonesa for the rest of the season.

    Mr Goodwill was the Minister of State for Children and Families - a position he'd held since June. The decision follows the removal of the Rotherham-born MP Justine Greening as Education Secretary yesterday.
