  3. Concerns over frequent flooding of villagepublished at 08:15 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January

    Louise Brierley
    BBC News

A Herefordshire village is experiencing more severe and long-lasting flooding, according to residents.

The recent heavy rain left some roads shut in Marden, near Hereford, while others were only just passable.

    Janet Hewlett

Janet Hewlett has lived in the village for 25 years and said the roads around her home flood every winter.

The property used a septic tank system and she said she was often not able to use her toilet or washing-machine for a month at a time.

The 75-year-old was relying on her neighbours to wash her clothes and had had to hire a portable toilet.

"It's not acceptable for anybody and I can't believe that something can't be done to stop it happening", she said.

Herefordshire Council has been approached for a response.

You can read more on how the village had been affected by this latest flooding here on the BBC website.

They said they were able to get the stranded driver, who was stuck at the B5000 junction with Spon Lane, to safety at about 04:00 GMT.

Afterwards they asked the police to close the road.

Mr Stych added: "I said to the woman: 'Now's your time you know, take my hand and we can go.'"

"At that moment she just put her arms out to me for help."

As rest centres are prepared in Warwickshire, and residents in one village in the county report a sense of "panic" setting in, we remain on watch overnight for developments in the usual suspects, Bewdley and Ironbridge.

But those areas are by no means the only ones affected. We'll bring you more coverage from 06:00 on Wednesday. Please do join us for the latest information.

  14. Nerve-wracking time for Worcesterpublished at 19:00 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Phil Mackie
    BBC Midlands Correspondent

Worcester is used to flooding - this is the fourth flood since Storm Babet passed through in October.

The trouble is, the level at which the River Severn is expected to peak today used to be called a 50-year event, yet this is the seventh time it’s been this high this century.

    Worcester flooding

The good news is hundreds of properties that used to be inundated with water are now protected by flood barriers and a bund.

But dozens of homes are still prone to flooding because the cost of building defences for them would be too great.

Instead, owners have tried to make their houses more resilient with pumps, flood gates, and internal modifications.

However, it’s still a nerve-wracking time for people whose lives are disrupted increasingly often.

  15. More rainfall than average in Decemberpublished at 18:58 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

    Shefali Oza
    BBC Midlands Today

We've had 25% to 50% more rainfall than average in December across parts of the Midlands, including an additional 10 to 14mm from the new year's Storm Henk. But as the storm clears later on Tuesday, things will become a little drier.

The persistent rain will be replaced by showers, with temperatures falling to 6C and winds gradually easing but still quite blustery.

Temperatures remain mild on Wednesday, between 8 to 10C. There'll be gusts then of about 20 to 30mph on a day of sunshine and sharp showers.

There may be some rain for southern counties on Thursday, but with lighter winds and a cooler feel as temperatures start to fall - a maximum of 8C, then a much drier, cooler end to the week with night frosts and fog, and daytime highs of only 5C.

  16. 'I've seen it worse, but not very much'published at 18:54 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

The road linking the Warwickshire villages of Long Itchington and Bascote has been closed by flood water.

Simon Mills, landlord of The Harvester Inn in Long Itchington said he had seen worse flooding "but not very much worse".

    Long Itchington

"As I look out of my window now, I can literally look down the street and you can see water all the way across," he said.

"Willow Grove is a particularly bad area, there has been lots of pumps up there," he explained.

    Long Itchington

Mr Mills added there was a "really good community spirit", saying: "The village always pulls together on days like this.

"There's a lot of good folk doing a lot of hard work to look after peoples' houses, clear fallen trees and generally just making life better."

  17. Bin collections affectedpublished at 18:50 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

In the West Midlands, Worcester is among the areas to be hit hardest so far by Storm Henk. We rounded up some of the difficulties here.

Now there's news the city's floods have affected bin collections.

In a post on X, external, formerly Twitter, the city council said: "We're doing our best to get to the bins of homes most affected by the floods.

"[On Tuesday] we've emptied green bins at Diglis Avenue and tomorrow we'll be back to do their black bins.

"We'll also be in Waterworks Road a day early on Wednesday to empty bins."

  18. Shrewsbury car park closurepublished at 18:40 Greenwich Mean Time 2 January

A third car park in Shrewsbury has been closed until further notice as a result of flooding.

Shropshire Council said St Julian's Friars car park would be closed from 18:00 GMT on Tuesday.
