    A survey into household spending has found the East spends £4.60 a week on wine - making it joint second with Scotland.

    The South East spends the most at £4,90 per week, with this region spending the most across the UK on alcohol, tobacco and narcotics.

    The report from the Office of National Statistics, external also found people in the East spent an average of £68.90 per week on recreation and culture - the second highest amount in the UK.

    Police are appealing for help in finding two children who've gone missing, external from Luton.

    The 14-year-old girl and her brother, aged four, left an address in Little Berries at 11:00 and haven't been seen since.

    The girl is 5ft 2ins with brown hair in a bun while the boy, who is believed not to speak English, is described as chubby with black hair. He was wearing navy pyjama bottoms.

    Justice Secretary Michael Gove ordered the review to ensure the care of such offenders is "fit for purpose".

    Vikki Thompson, 21, was found dead in her cell in November and Joanne Latham, 38, died earlier this month at Woodhill Prison in Milton Keynes. Both were placed in all-male prisons.

    A man arrested in Luton a week ago Friday by anti-terror police has been released on police bail.

    The 30-year-old had been arrested on suspicion of being a member of a proscribed organisation and a house in Claremont Road was searched. 

    The arrest is not believed to be connected to four other anti-terror arrests in Luton last week.

  13. Gerrards Cross lay-by murder: Police interview with guilty manpublished at 15:20

    Today, Navin Mohan, 35, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Anita Kapoor, whose body was found in a lay-by near Gerrards Cross in June.

    "Anita Kapoor was working as a prostitute," said an officer in a police interview with Mohan.

    "The last time [her boyfriend] spoke to her was on the phone, when she told him she was at Sainsbury's with a customer and she would call him when she was finished. We believe that customer to be you."

    A transgender prisoner who was found hanging in a cell was being observed every half an hour on the night she died, an inquest has heard.

    Joanne Latham, 38, was discovered by a prison officer at HMP Woodhill in Milton Keynes.

    She was serving life for three attempted murders when she died on 27 November.

  15. Coach attacked by group on bikes in Watfordpublished at 14:55

    A Norwich City supporters' coach was damaged after a group on bikes threw a large stone at one of the windows as it left Watford on Saturday.

    The coach was sat in traffic on Hempstead Road at about 17:35 when the group approached and smashed a window. Police are appealing for information.

    The family of Anita Kapoor who was murdered in June say "life will never be the same" without her.

    In a statement, external released via Thames Valley Police, Miss Kapoor's family say they have been "living in a real-life nightmare" since the 34-year-old was killed.

    "However comforting it is to have justice for Anita, it doesn't bring her back," they said. Navin Mohan, 35, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 22 years.

    Travis was given a suspended three-month prison sentence after he was found guilty of groping a researcher behind the scenes at the Mrs Merton Show in 1995.

  20. Anita Kapoor's murder was a 'vicious attack on a vulnerable woman'published at 13:52

    "Please let me go, I won't say anything". They were the last words that Anita Kapoor's boyfriend heard her say before the line went dead on the night she was murdered.

    The 34-year-old was picked up by Navin Mohan in his red Nissan Micra in London. He went on to strangle her before dumping her body in a lay-by on the A413 at Gerrards Cross.

    Mohan denied killing Miss Kapoor throughout the trial in what Det Ch Insp Kevin Brown described as "a vicious attack on a vulnerable woman." He was jailed for life with a minimum term of 22 years.
