    A misconduct hearing is due to take place today into a Hertfordshire police officer who had a series of sexual relationships with vulnerable women.

    PC Simon Salway, 39, is serving a three year jail sentence after being found guilty of six offences of misconduct in a public office at Luton Crown Court.

    The officer from Stevenage met the women through his work at Hatfield police station. The internal police hearing will take place at Bedfordshire Police headquarters today.

    Women are more severely affected by Alzheimer's than men, according to research by the University of Hertfordshire, external.

    Academics found that, when looking at the same stage of the disease in both sexes, women's cognitive functions are more impaired than men's.

    In a paper published in the World Journal of Psychiatry, external, the findings are examined and researchers say there could be a number of reasons, including a reduction of estrogen in postmenopausal women.

    An inquest is being held this lunchtime into the death of a civilian staff member at Bedfordshire Police who was knocked down at Barton-le-Clay in December 2014.

    Mark Stagg, 47, from Arlesey was riding his bicycle on the A6 when he was hit by a car.

    The anti-clockwise stretch of the M25 is closed between Junctions 21a and 20, near the M1 junction, and has been since 01:00 due to emergency repairs to a bridge. It isn't expected to open until later this afternoon.

    Residents of a sheltered housing unit in Leighton Buzzard say they've been told all their mobility aids have to be cleared from communal areas and stairwells otherwise they'll be removed.

    Central Bedfordshire Council says it is adopting a zero tolerance policy at Tudor Court over health and safety fears, following a serious incident at another housing association which led to the deaths of several people.

    Residents say they will be left housebound if their mobility aids are taken away from them and want a suitable storage area to be found instead.

    The M25 remains closed anti-clockwise between J21a for St Albans and J20 for Kings Langley after a crack was discovered on the bridge near J20.

    Emergency repairs have been under way since 01:00. Highways England say they hope to have an update by late afternoon. Check you journey here.

    Last night's non-league derby between Aylesbury FC, external and AylesburyUnited, external at Haywood Way was abandoned at half time because all the floodlights went out.

    Fans stood in darkness for half an hour while unsuccessful attempts were made to fix the problem.

    The game, dubbed the "El Quackico" derby as Aylesbury United are nicknamed the Ducks - will now have to be rescheduled for later in the season. The score was 0-0 at the time.

  9. 'Fears unfounded,' says Willen concrete plant developerpublished at 12:00

    The developer behind plans to build a waste recycling centre and concrete plant near WiIlen Lake has said the fears of those protesting are "wholly unfounded".

    People are worried the site, which would deal with 200,000 tonnes of waste a year, will have a negative impact on the area. 

    Developer Mick George said in a statement that the tranquility of Willen Hospice being affected is "completely unfounded" and that "the only noise that will be heard will be from the M1 and local highway traffic".

    A 77-year-old man has been charged with damaging parked cars in Bedford.

    The man has been charged with two counts of criminal damage after cars were damaged in the Castle Road area of the town last year.

    He will appear before magistrates next month.

    The future of one of the UK's best-known High Street names, BHS, will be decided today, when its creditors vote on whether to back a rescue deal.

    Without an agreement, the company may go into administration, putting more than 10,000 jobs and 167 shops - including nine stores in Beds, Herts and Bucks - at risk. 

    They include those in Luton, Stevenage, Bedford, Milton Keynes, St Albans, Aylesbury, Watford and High Wycombe.

    A man was hospitalised after being stabbed in the neck in an altercation in Luton on Sunday.

    Police believe the incident occurred at 17:45 behind Erin Court in Erin Close before the victim was chased towards Dunstable Road by a group of Asian men.

    Another two men sustained stab wounds and needed hospital treatment, which police say could be after a subsequent attack.

    A minute's silence is to be held this morning to remember the victims of yesterday's explosions at Brussels Airport and Maelbeek metro station, which killed more than 30 people and injured about 250.

    The chairman of Milton Keynes Council development control committee has said if it had refused planning permission for a controversial concrete plant and waste recycling centre. local planning conditions might have been lost.

    Last night the committee approved plans to build the plant near Willen Lake and Willen Hospice.

    Councillor Andrew Geary opposed the scheme, but said if it had gone to appeal "some of the strict conditions we have applied locally to try to mitigate the impact of this development could and probably would have been lost".

    Highways England has said it is "not concerned" about other bridges after a crack was found in the Gade Valley viaduct underneath the M25.

    The anti-clockwise carriageway between J21a for the A405 and J20 for the A41 at Watford is closed for emergency repairs and likely to remain so until 15:00 after the crack was found yesterday. 

    Spokesman Francis Cluett said: "The structure of this bridge is unique so we're not concerned about other structures."

    Milton Keynes Dons have failed in their appeal to overturn defender Kyle McFadzean's red card in last weekend's defeat by Brighton.

    It means the centre-half will serve a three-match ban, starting a week on Saturday at fellow strugglers Fulham.

    McFadzean will also miss home matches against Wolves and another of the Dons' relegation rivals, Rotherham.

    The controversial plan to build a concrete plant and waste recycling centre near Willen Lake and Willen Hospice has been reminding me of the KWiET campaign in the late 1980s, when I was working on the Milton Keynes Herald.

    Keep Willen Ever Tranquil was formed to try to prevent the H5 grid road being built between the two lakes. The completed H5 was always in the plans, but that stretch was to be built later than the rest of the road.

    After a campaign which attracted plenty of interest, the Milton Keynes Development Corporation prevailed and the missing part of the H5 Portway was put in place.
