    The human head was recovered from the Mepal quarry this morning and information has been sent to the coroner, Cambridgeshire Police has told me.

    The second site police are searching in relation to the discovery is on Mill Road in Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire.

    Police have yet to provide further details about that site, but a spokesman said officers had been there since yesterday afternoon, when the head was first discovered about 40 miles away.

    Police have just sent us a quote from one of the detectives involved in the investigation at Mepal, where a human head has been found, and the search of a site in Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire.

    Det Insp Jerry Waite, from the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit, said: "We are conducting inquiries both locally and across the county borders, and would urge anyone with information to contact us."

    Police have confirmed that a site in Bedfordshire is being searched, after a human head was discovered in Cambridgeshire.

    The head was found at a quarry operated by Mick George Ltd, on Block Fen Drove, Mepal, yesterday afternoon.

    Police said a site in Sharnbrook was also being searched, as "this is where the remains may have come from".

    Scientists in Harpenden are marking the 160th anniversary of the Park Grass Experiment, external today by inviting the public, external and school pupils to witness their work.

    Rothamsted Research, external have been continuing the experiment, devised by John Lawes and Joseph Gilbert in 1856, to find out how different fertilisers affect yields in hay meadows.

    Last year, scientists used records from Park Grass experiments, external to test whether plants could recover from years of pollution. They discovered that since legislation was introduced in the 1980s, reducing atmospheric nitrogen pollution, that plants have recovered.

    A 15-year-old boy is in a serious condition in hospital after being run over in Milton Keynes on Sunday night.

    Police say he was crossing H2 Millers Way from a bus stop, between Kiln Farm and Fullers Slade, when he was struck by a vehicle.

    He suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford.

    The 'Writing's on the Wall' for GCSE Music at Sam Smith's old school.

    Year 10 students at St Mary's Catholic School in Bishop's Stortford told the Herts and Essex Observer, external they won't be taught the subject from next year - and the school told the BBC its disappointed its having to drop Music from its curriculum after only three students signed up.

    Two teenagers who robbed a couple in Welwyn Garden City with a knife have escaped a custodial sentence after showing signs of changing their ways, a judge has said.

    The pair, aged 16 and 17 at the time, were sentenced to an 18 month youth rehabilitation order at St Albans Crown Court, and told to complete community work.

    The judge also made an order forbidding any contact between the two, and for them to stay out of Welwyn Harden City. The teenagers admitted two charges of robbery, along with charges of possessing weapons, following the late night robbery on a young couple in August last year.

    The local borough councillor for Stewartby said he "dropped out of" his chair when he read that building plans for an incinerator were back on.

    Liberal Democrat Councillor Tim Hill said he "got a press release via the local council from Veolia late last week" about the project, which energy company Covanta had previously withdrawn from.

    "This new proposal is dreadful news," Mr Hill said.

    Nicola Berridge, 53, from Biggleswade, was in collision with a lorry in February 2015. The inquest takes place at Ampthill Coroner's Court.

    Residents living near a site in Stewartby, where an incinerator will be built next year, say they are shocked and "appalled" as they thought the scheme was dead in the water.

    Steve Balint, who lives in nearby Millbrook, says the "energy from waste" plant will affect him "quite drastically".

    He said it is "another imposition on Bedfordshire". Energy companies Covanta and Veolia have agreed to build the plant in a former clay pit.

    The chairman of Marston Moretaine Parish Council says he "never thought" plans for an incinerator "had gone away".

    An incinerator will be built at Rookery Pit in Stewartby, Bedfordshire next year despite energy company Covanta, external previously withdrawing from the project.

    "Our opposition remains very clear to this; this a village, we don't need an incinerator on the edge of the countryside," Hugh Roberts said.

    An incinerator will be built in Bedfordshire next year despite people thinking the scheme was dead in the water. 

    Energy companies Covanta and Veolia have agreed to build an energy from waste plant at former clay pit, Rookery Pit, near Stewartby. It will produce enough power for up to 85,000 homes and 300 jobs will be created during construction.

    They are currently in the process of securing final approvals and project finance. The project was initially given approval three years ago, but Covanta then withdrew.     

    Central Bedfordshire Council, external says it is seeking a meeting with the developers to ensure minimal impact on the community.
