  17. Man cleared of children's home abuse allegationpublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 31 August 2016

    Nic Rigby
    BBC News

A 73-year-old man has been cleared of molesting two young girls at a children's home in the 1970s.

Michael Coughtrey was accused of abusing the youngsters on occasions when he went to pick up his wife, who had worked at the Woolmer Drive home in Hemel Hempstead.

His Old Bailey trial heard that one of the girls had complained to staff at the time but did not feel that she would be "supported or believed".

Police launched an investigation in 2014 after a second alleged victim came forward.

After Mr Coughtrey was arrested in March last year, he told police that his wife had worked at the home and he would often visit to collect her.

The jury found Mr Coughtrey, of Spalding, Lincolnshire, not guilty of six counts of indecent assault.

Luke West, 23, of Abbots Wood Road, and Kyle Pitchford-Price, 23, of Dovehouse Hill in Luton, were convicted of murdering Atul Shah last week and will be sentenced later.

Today, Pauline Smith, Mr Shah's former partner, issued a statement on behalf of his family.

"He (Atul) was a proud and loving father to all three of his children, who all miss him terribly. They cannot get their heads around why someone would torture and murder their dad in this brutal way.

"He was a very special friend who I shared some special memories with and I will miss him always.

"Atul’s murder has devastated us all. Justice has been served but no amount of time that these murderers get will ease our pain."

  20. Luton company says Ultracharger will change electric-powered travelpublished at 15:11 British Summer Time 31 August 2016

    Waseem Mirza
    BBC Look East

A company in Luton says a new electric charger will help revolutionise electric-powered travel.

    Ultracharger

Chargemaster, based at Capability Green, is the UK's largest manufacturer of chargers for electric cars and has just launched the Ultracharger.

It says it's the first 50kw rapid charger to be manufactured in the UK which can charge a car in under 30 minutes.

Chief executive David Martell says they are also smaller than the usual chargers, which "enables one to deploy the units without planning permission on the public highway".
