    I'm sure many people will be pleased to see these lovely scenes of PC Dave Wardell being reunited with police dog Finn, after they were both injured in a stabbing in Stevenage on Wednesday.

    The police dog handler has spoken of his relief after Finn underwent a successful four-hour surgery to treat two stab wounds.

    PC Wardell, who has had Finn since he was about nine months old, said: "It's just great to see him alive, I wasn't sure we were going to see [him] like this, it's just nice to be here with him and see him so alert."

  7. 'Despicable' sexual assault on woman in Sandypublished at 16:49 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    A woman was sexually assaulted in Sandy while walking from Robert Peel Lower School towards Engayne Avenue.

    While passing through an alleyway at about 19.45 last Friday, the woman was approached from behind by three men.

    One of the men sexually assaulted her before all three ran away.

    The first man is described as white, aged between 20 and 25 years old, 5ft 11in tall and of medium build. He is described as wearing a dark baseball cap, a dark hoody which went over his cap, dark trousers and dark trainers.

    The other two men are also described as white, 5ft 11in tall, of medium build and both wearing dark clothing.  

    Det Con Chris Avery said: "This is a despicable incident; we won't tolerate this behaviour."

  9. Three charged in connection with Watford attackpublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    Three men have been charged in connection with an attack on a man who was found lying on the ground after a fight at a Watford cafe.

    Officers were called to Jenny's in St Albans Road at just before 02:00 on Tuesday morning.

    A 19-year-old man remains in hospital in a critical condition with serious head injuries, after being found in St Albans Road. 

    Three people from Watford have been charged with grievous and actual bodily harm.

    We brought you news earlier that police dog Finn was recovering well from his four-hour emergency surgery after being stabbed during an incident in Stevenage.

    Following a number of stitches, he's now been reunited with his handler, PC Dave Wardell.

  13. Train with 2,000 passengers 'exceeded emergency speed limit by 70mph'published at 14:34 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    It's been revealed that a train carrying hundreds of commuters from Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire exceeded a speed limit by 70mph (112km/h).

    A report by the Rail Accident Investigation Branch, external said the 07:39 London Midland service from Bletchley to Euston was travelling through north-west London on 5 January.

    An emergency 5mph limit had been imposed due to a crack in a set of points, but the driver sped through the area at 75mph.

    The driver had recently joined the company and was being assessed by a colleague. 

    The report said they misunderstood a warning email and it has made various recommendations. No-one was injured.

    As we've just mentioned, a boy has been charged with stabbing a police dog in Stevenage.

    However, we've had some good news this afternoon - the dog involved, Finn, and his handler PC Dave Wardell seem to be recovering well.

    The German Shepherd was stabbed in the head and chest and PC Wardell was knifed in the hand in Denton Road, Stevenage, in the early hours of Wednesday. 

    The officer was treated in hospital and discharged and his seriously injured dog underwent four-hour emergency surgery.

    A force spokesman told us Finn was "still very sore and still recovering" but has had a short walk and PC Wardell was due to visit him later.

    England Under-21s are aiming to beat Kazakhstan this afternoon to secure their place at next summer's European Championship.

    They will be led for the first time by Aidy Boothroyd as Gareth Southgate steps up to manage the full side.

    The former Peterbough player and coach and manager of Watford and Northampton, says he will speak to Southgate but will name his own team for the game in Aktobe.

    He said: "The head coach knows all the players and I will pick the Under-21s team.

    "But I would be a fool not to go and have a chat with the guy who has been working with them for two years."

    We're celebrating National Poetry today – here are just a few of the poets who have graced Beds, Herts and Bucks at one time or another:

    Milton's Cottage
    • John Milton: His Grade II-listed 16th Century home in Chalfont St Giles (pictured) was where he completed Paradise Lost, and the idea of Paradise Regained was put to him
    • John Dryden: Was a frequent visitor to relatives at Denham Court in Denham. He was inspired here to write Ode to St Cecilia in 1697
    • Thomas GrayOften visited his mother at West End Farm, Burnham and described the area in Elegy in a Country Churchyard (1751). His tomb can be seen in the churchyard at the Church of St Giles, off Church Lane, Stoke Poges
    • T S Eliot: The poet famous for The Wasteland lived in West Street, Marlow, for a short time during World War One and also taught at the Royal Grammar School, High Wycombe
    • John Betjeman: The former 20th Century poet laureate became a teacher at Thorpe House School, Gerrards Cross, before working as a private secretary. He enthused much about Beechy Bucks and with John Piper edited Murray's Buckinghamshire Architectural Guide in 1948

  20. Baseball bat and hammer-wielding men attack shop staffpublished at 11:40 British Summer Time 6 October 2016

    Two shop workers have been attacked in an attempted robbery at a Bedford convenience store.

    At about 23.00 on Tuesday two men armed with a baseball bat and hammer entered Honey Hill Stores on Honey Hill Road and attacked the members of staff before attempting to take the cash register.

    The men, described as 5ft 6in, slim and wearing dark clothing, fled empty-handed after causing significant damage to the store.

    Bedfordshire Police is appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.
