    The southbound A10 is closed near Ware due to an accident involving a motorbike.

    Traffic is queuing and congestion is back to the the Puckeridge roundabout.

    Herts Highways says the road is expected to be closed for some time.

    Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue has been warning people not to try and tackle wasps' nest with fire.

  3. HS2 will 'increase capacity' to Northampton and Milton Keynes trains, says transport secretarypublished at 09:50 British Summer Time 3 October 2016

    The transport secretary says Northampton and Milton Keynes will benefit from HS2.

    The controversial multibillion-pound high-speed rail link is due to pass through Buckinghamshire and the south of Northamptonshire, and has many critics over its cost and damage to the landscape.

    But Chris Grayling said "by taking the fast trains off the West Coast mainline, you increase capacity for freight and passenger services to places like Northampton and Milton Keynes".

    The first phase of the line - linking London and Birmingham - will open at the end of 2026 under current plans.

    Luton-based Monarch has been reassuring passengers its planes will still be flying in a week's time.

    After running out on Friday, its Atol licence has been extended, but only until next Wednesday.

    By that time Monarch is confident it will have secured the "largest investment in its 48-year history".  

    But the Independent's travel editor Simon Calder told the BBC it's an odd way to run an airline.

    He said: "I would expect something that's a bit more positive [from the Civil Aviation Authority] than we've given Monarch another 12 days to prove that they have the financial resources to withstand what's going to be a pretty awful winter."

    It's great to get positive comments from the judging panel on Strictly Come Dancing, but it seems Greg Rutherford also has a fan in the man widely hailed as the UK's most popular and successful choreographer and director.

  6. Strictly Come Dancing: Rutherford escapes 'bum deal' in tangopublished at 09:09 British Summer Time 3 October 2016

    Greg Rutherford has made it through to week three of BBC One's Strictly Come Dancing after generally positive comments about his tango - although most of the talk from the judging panel was about his posterior.

    Head judge Len Goodman got straight to the point saying "your bum sticks out", but he liked the "fire and the spirit" of his performance.

    Craig Revell Horwood said "as attractive as your bottom is, it does need to go under", but he "loved the intent and the amount of aggression" of the dance.  

    Bruno Tonioli said he was "strong and powerful" and "the bum, I don't mind at all", while Darcey Bussell "liked the buttocks", but when "they're that accentuated" you have to watch what you do with them.

    Greg has tweeted, external to thank everybody for their support and said his "bum will be under control" next week.

    Lewis Hamilton's title hopes were dealt a heavy blow when his engine failed as he led the Malaysian Grand Prix.

    The Briton dominated the race until flames started pouring from his Mercedes on lap 43, prompting him to say on the radio: "Oh, no, no."

    Lewis Hamilton says he wants answers from his Brackley-based Mercedes team after engine failure cost him victory at the Malaysian Grand Prix and severely dented his title hopes.

    The failure was the latest in a series for Hamilton, who is 23 points behind team-mate Nico Rosberg with five races to go and 125 points still available.

    "We have so many engines for eight drivers and mine are the only ones failing," said the 31-year-old from Stevenage.

    "Someone has to give me some answers because it is just not acceptable."

    I've just been having a look at the rush-hour departure boards on the Virgin Trains East Coast line, keeping a look-out for any disruption as the RMT Union strike continues.

    Currently rush-hour trains are generally running to time, with only one or two trains heading to London suffering short delays. 

    Members of the RMT Union are walking out due to a long-running dispute over jobs. 

    The company said, external it would be running a full timetable during the strike, but on-board catering services would be affected.

    Last week there was concern about the financial health of Luton-based budget airline Monarch when it was forced to deny "negative speculation".

    On Friday, just ahead of a midnight deadline for the renewal of its Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) licence, it was announced it had received a temporary extension to its licence until 12 October to sell package holidays.

    The company, which employs about 2,800 staff and is based at Luton Airport, also said it had secured additional funds from shareholders and was close to announcing its biggest ever investment.

    An 82-year-old woman has been the victim of a daylight sex attack in Bletchley, described by officers as "horrendous".

    The woman was assaulted as she walked on a path near Buckingham Road at about 13:00 on Friday.

    A man, described as white and in his early to mid-20s, with a large build, pushed her to the ground and attacked her before walking off.

    He was wearing a black beanie hat, black jacket and black trousers. He was carrying a black rucksack over both shoulders.

    Workers on Virgin Trains East Coast have begun a 24-hour strike this morning in a long-running dispute over jobs.

    The RMT, external union said about 1,800 members, including train crew and some drivers, are taking action against threatened job cuts and disputes over working conditions and safety.

    Virgin Trains East Coast, external, which operates services between London, eastern England and Scotland, said it was making changes to customer-facing roles. 

    The company said, external it would be running a full timetable during the strike but there will be some changes to on-board catering and it may not be able to open the food bar or run a trolley service in standard class, and the first class menu will be reduced.

    I think the message is to stock up on food before you travel.
