    Alfie Barker later apologised for his "disgraceful comments" and said that he would accept any punishment given to him.

    Barker, who takes medication to combat the symptoms of ADHD and a mild form of autism, was sacked by both Hitchin and Codicote FC, where he had been on loan.

    Arter and partner Rachel's baby daughter Renee was stillborn in December 2015.

    In relation to Barker's charge, it's alleged he posted comments which were abusive and/or insulting and/or improper and/or brought the game into disrepute.

    Ex-Hitchin player Alfie Barker has been charged by the FA in relation to tweets sent to Bournemouth's Harry Arter about the death of his baby daughter.

    Bournemouth lost a three-goal lead to draw 3-3 with Arsenal in the Premier League on Tuesday, 3 January.

    Barker, on Hitchin's books at the time, later posted: "Big hype just for a disappointment like the nine months leading up to your child's birth."

    Barker, who was sacked, has until 25 January to respond to the charge.

    A parking hotline has been set up by Bedford Borough Council to catch people parking unlawfully.

    Deputy mayor Charles Royden said people who park badly are "selfish" and create an "unsafe environment for residents".

    Anyone who sees people parking on zig-zag lines outside of schools, in disabled bays without a valid blue badge, in bus stops or across dropped kerbs are asked to call 01234 267422, external, select option two for Highways and Parking and press option three.

    A third person has been arrested following the death of Adam Watt (below), from Hemel Hempstead, who was stabbed outside his home in Evans Wharf, Apsley Lock, on Sunday.  

    A 22-year-old man, also from the town, has been arrested on suspicion of murdering the 38-year-old and is in police custody.

    A 47-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man, arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, continue to be questioned.

    Dog fighting is "happening everywhere, in towns, cities and rural areas". 

    That's according to Eduardo Goncalves, chief executive of the League Against Cruel Sports, responding to news that more than 200 calls were made to the RSPCA in Beds, Herts and Bucks reporting organised dog fighting since 2006. 

    He says the crime is "making a comeback" and the penalties are just not strong enough. He says if found guilty there's only a maximum six-month jail term.

    The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) says there are "strict laws in place" to deal with offenders and "anyone who is cruel to an animal or does not provide for its welfare needs may be banned from owning animals, given an unlimited fine or sent to prison".

    Bedfordshire has some of the most reports of dog fights in the country, considering the size of its population.

    New figures from the RSPCA show Bedfordshire had 74 calls since 2006, behind places like the West Midlands, South Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire.

    Hertfordshire had 64 and Buckinghamshire 73 calls. 

    But when you break down Bedfordshire's figure, it works out the RSPCA received 12 calls per 100,000 people in the county, between 2006 and 2015.

    St Albans-based Premier Foods is just about to start a three-year cost cutting plan, which aims to make savings of £10m by next year.

    The company said some of its big brands, including Bisto, Oxo, Loyd Grossman, Ambrosia and Batchelors, were performing well.

    The group sold more than 216 million mince pies in 2016, 17% more than the previous year. However, as in other areas, sales shifted away from the Mr Kipling label in favour of the non-branded equivalent.

    Hertfordshire-based Premier Foods, owner of the Mr Kipling, Batchelors and Bisto brands, says it expects profits to be down 10% this financial year. 

    The weaker pound has made ingredients such as sugar and cocoa more expensive, with shoppers buying cheaper non-branded products. 

    The St Albans company's shares were down more than 15% in early trading this morning.

    "Notes on Notations" was written while the Cambridge academic was cracking German codes and provides a commentary on the language of mathematics.

    It was privately bought for $1m in New York in 2015 and is on loan to the Buckinghamshire museum.

    The notebook is one of just a handful of Turing's written manuscripts in existence.

    The trial of Ian Stewart, who denies murdering Royston author Helen Bailey, has been adjourned as the defendant was not well enough to attend court.

    The mother of the children's author was due to give evidence today.

    However, the judge at St Albans Crown Court said the trial would continue tomorrow.

    A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was found stabbed in a house in Aylesbury.

    A 26-year-old man was found hurt on Brompton Close on Monday morning.

    Police say an 18-year-old man from the town was originally arrested for attempted murder, but after the victim died at Stoke Mandeville Hospital on Tuesday he was re-arrested.
