The Australian hardware store, Bunnings, has opened its first UK store in St Albans today, and I've been down to see what all the fuss is about.

There's been speculation as to whether it will live up to those stores down under, but a Bunnings employee told me: "Everything is exactly the same as in Australia, except there are pound signs instead of dollar signs."

As mentioned in our previous post, it seems to be the sausage sizzles that are creating a buzz, getting many Aussie ex-pats excited.

I was informed the sausage stand would be outside at weekends, but the store has prepared for the British weather and will set up a tent, so "if it's drizzly it will be OK".

Down Under Bunnings is famed for its sausage sizzles - a sausage with onions encased in white bread.

The store opening has also been widely reported by the Australian media, with one outlet asking: "Do Poms love a sausage sizzle?, external

There are plans to open four stores by June, with another six by the end of the year.

The Bunnings brand is a welcome reminder of life down under for the thousands of Australians living in the UK.

I've already seen some musings among Aussies on social media about them making a pilgrimage to St Albans.

"We are now seeing a new generation of aircraft that are much quieter, much more fuel efficient and they will totally transform the environment around our airports," he said.

"Of course there is an impact of noise and we've got a world-beating package of compensation for those affected by the new runway - but planes are getting quieter all the time."
