  3. Parents start petition after care leavers are housed next to schoolpublished at 10:11 British Summer Time 2 May 2017

    BBC Three Counties Radio

Parents in Bletchley have started a petition against the homing of young people who have left the care system next to their children's school.

A paper petition currently has 200 signatures and campaigners hope to place the petition online this week.

The four bedroom council house is next to shared pathways that access Knowles Primary School.

Milton Keynes Council says it will be providing the young people with visiting support and guidance to help them get back on their feet.

    Knowles Primary School

One woman who has nephews at Knowles Primary School is concerned the council will not be able to control what happens at the home.

She said: "I came out of the care system at the age of 18. I had no-one - I turned to drink and drugs.

"That's what could happen here too."

Zoe Nolan, Labour, who's responsible for children and families at Milton Keynes Council, said: "There's not any greater risk from children who are leaving care than any other neighbours.

"These are young people who are in sixth-form, taking apprenticeships or starting work and are starting to live independently."

  5. Police force launches online system to report crimepublished at 08:45 British Summer Time 2 May 2017

    Tony Fisher
    BBC Three Counties Radio

People living in Hertfordshire can now contact their police force online to report non-urgent crimes.

As well as a live web chat with staff in the force control room, people can also report crime directly on the force's website.

Hertfordshire Police says a pilot which began at the start of this year has seen more people reporting crimes in this way.

By expanding their online service, the force is reducing pressure on their control room, which means call handlers can focus on urgent 999 calls.

Chief constable Charlie Hall said: "We are encouraging people to click before they call, as the information they need may actually be readily available online, and if not then our web chat agents will be on hand to help."
