A party spokesman said any instance of anti-Semitism by a candidate in the campaign would be dealt with "immediately and robustly".

"We were alerted to anti-Semitic social media posts by Ashuk Ahmed, the Liberal Democrat candidate in Luton South, who was immediately suspended," a spokesman said.

The leader of the Liberal Democrats on Luton Borough Council, David Franks, said: "The allegations are as yet unproven... if they are proved to be correct, then there is no space in the Liberal Democrats for him or that kind of attitude."

  3. Milton Keynes regeneration: Consultation to take more than a yearpublished at 10:38 British Summer Time 26 April 2017

    Andy Holmes
BBC Three Counties Radio political reporter

So now we know that a massive regeneration project is going to start in Milton Keynes, but what are the details and how is it going to work?

What we do know is for the next year to 18 months, a lengthy consultation will take place with residents to work out how their homes can be updated.

YourMK, external, which is behind the plans, says on its website: "You do not need to do anything right now. No building or refurbishment work will start straight away. No decisions will be made about your homes or neighbourhoods without residents being fully involved."

    Fullers SladeImage source, Your MK

This could mean some homes are completely rebuilt or some just refurbished.

Work will start first at Fullers Slade and letters are being sent to residents this week.

Early talk suggests it will be a one move policy, where new homes are built and then people are moved into them.

A timetable for the £1bn regeneration of the estates has been announced this morning.

The project will last 15 years and affect 20,000 residents on the Netherfield, Coffee Hall, Tinkers Bridge, North Bradville, Fullers Slade, the Lakes and Beanhill estates.

The town is celebrating its 50th birthday this year and while it was a pioneering housing development when it was planned in 1967, many estates are now in need of regeneration.

A letter is being sent to everyone who lives at Fullers Slade this week, with further details before consultation to decide on exactly what work will take place.

Come the autumn, focus will shift to the Lakes estate and then in early 2018, North Bradville.

At this stage we're a while away from any building work though, with planners determined to get the regeneration right.

Today we've been talking about computer hacker Adam Mudd, who has been jailed for two years for masterminding global online attacks from his bedroom in Hertfordshire.

    Adam Mudd

Mudd was 16 when he developed a programme called Titanium Stresser. He set it up using a false name and an address in Manchester.

The attacks, known as 'distributed denials of service' (DDoS), left companies paying millions to defend themselves against it.

  11. Stevenage man victim of 'brutal retribution', trial toldpublished at 16:49 British Summer Time 25 April 2017

A man killed with a flat screen TV was attacked after an "altercation" between the victim and the mother of a man accused of his murder, a trial has been told.

Peter Shickle, 58, was found in his flat on Silam Road, Stevenage, on 6 November. John Jamieson and Graham King, both from the town, were later charged with his murder - which they both deny.

The fatal attack was triggered the week before when Mr Shickle got into an argument with Mr Jamieson's mother while they were drinking in a pub, Luton Crown Court heard.

Prosecutor Martin Mulgrew said: "John Jamieson had settled on a plan for brutal retribution on Peter Shickle. He recruited his good friend Graham King, who was the muscle back-up."

The pair then went out looking for Mr Shickle in two pubs before allegedly warning a barmaid he was a "dead man", the court heard.

    Case proceeding.

The jury heard Peter Shickle, 58, was found lying in a pool of blood in his Stevenage flat last November, after the large TV was ripped from the wall and brandished at him during a brutal assault by two men.

Paramedics were called but they could not save the father of two.

Prosecutor Martin Mulgrew told the jury that head injuries had been caused by the TV hitting Mr Shickle's head - who suffered a fractured jaw, nose, 12 broken ribs and other injuries to his face, body, arms, hands and legs.

John Jamieson, 36, from Wigram Way, Stevenage and Graham King, also 36, from Harrow Court, Stevenage, deny murdering Mr Shickle.

    The trial continues.

Two members of the public jumped into the water in Stoke Hammond on Saturday morning and tried to free him, but the pressure of the water meant they couldn't open the car doors.

When firefighters arrived at the Fenny Road layby, the car was still sinking with the man inside.

They were able to rescue him when more water had got into the car and relieved the pressure enough to open a door.
