  5. Southern Health faces Connor Sparrowhawk drowning chargespublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 9 May 2017

    An NHS trust is to be prosecuted over the drowning of an 18-year-old patient at one of its facilities, the BBC has learned. 

    Connor Sparrowhawk suffered an epileptic fit while in a bath at Slade House in Oxford in July 2013.

    Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust eventually admitted responsibility and offered his family compensation. 

    The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) told the BBC it will now prosecute the trust.

    Southern Health provides mental health services to patients across Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

    Cloud will thin and break to eventually leave largely clear skies across the BBC East region.

    Temperatures could fall to freezing in places, and there's a chance of patchy frost.

    Some areas of shallow mist and fog are also possible.

    After a chilly start, Wednesday will be fine and dry with long sunny spells and patchy cloud.

    It'll feel warm in a light south to south easterly wind.

    We reported earlier that bleary-eyed passengers faced delays on the morning commute after a building fire in Bedfordshire, by the Bletchley to Bedford line.

    A Buckinghamshire charity has organised a special service at Westminster Abbey today for the families of drug abusers. 

    Elizabeth Burton-Philips started DrugFAM, external in High Wycombe after her son died as a result of his addiction to heroin.

    The charity supports the families, friends and partners of those addicted to drugs or alcohol.

  13. Lorry filmed reversing on roundaboutpublished at 13:33 British Summer Time 9 May 2017

    A lorry driver who reversed on a roundabout has been described as "crazy" by a former ambulance officer who filmed the incident. 

    The lorry was in heavy traffic in Stevenage at about 18:00 on Monday when the driver reversed the vehicle while part-way across the roundabout, to use a different exit. 

    The manoeuvre was filmed by Gary Sanderson, a former senior ambulance officer and press officer with the East of England Ambulance Service, who was a passenger in a car that was stuck in the traffic. 

    He posted the film on Twitter, writing: "I've seen it all now. Lorry reversing on roundabout in flowing traffic."

    "The road was gridlocked," Mr Sanderson said. "The lorry went past the entrance and then just reversed into live traffic. All the cars were beeping and shouting. 

    "It was crazy. In my 30-year ambulance career I've never seen anything like it."

    The Hemel Hempstead-based transport company, Palmer and Harvey, has been asked to comment on the footage.

    A police helicopter has been used in the search for a man who reportedly committed a sexual act on a cow in Hertfordshire.

    As reported in the St Albans and Harpenden Review, external, officers were called at 07:18 on Saturday to Denham Way in Maple Cross after receiving reports of an incident.

    A search of the area was carried out, which included assistance from the police helicopter, but no-one was located.

    Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information has been asked to contact Hertfordshire Police.

  18. Hang Yin Leung murder case: Fourth arrestpublished at 12:01 British Summer Time 9 May 2017

    Thames Valley Police has arrested another man in connection with the death of Hang Yin Leung in Milton Keynes.

    Mrs Leung, 64, died in hospital 11 days after she was attacked during a robbery at her home in Orne Gardens, Bolbeck Park.

    A 24-year-old man from Northampton has been arrested today on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody.

    He is the fourth person to be arrested in connection with the investigation.

    A 22-year-old man from Northampton was arrested on suspicion of murder by Thames Valley Police on 30 April and released under investigation.

    A man aged 18 from Redhill in Surrey, arrested on suspicion of murder last month, remains on bail.

    Another arrested man was released with no further action.

    Thames Valley Police is continuing to appeal for information and has asked people to get in touch.

    It's a rather unusual place to set up camp, but these birds in Bishop's Stortford have taken to nesting in a cigarette bin.

    The local rural police heard the birds while on an operation at the town's football club.

    Officers have put up a sign in the hope of protecting the birds from any unwanted cigarette butts.
