Armed men have broken into a house and stolen jewellery from the occupants while they were having dinner.

It happened in Gammons Lane, Watford, between 18:40 and 18:50 on Saturday.

Four men, believed to be armed with knives and screwdrivers, forcibly removed jewellery from the owners, searched their home and also took mobile phones.

They left in a dark-coloured BMW 1 Series car, driving along Gammons Lane before turning right onto St Albans Road.

Det Con Matt Cox said "Thankfully the victims were not injured, but were left extremely shaken.

"I would urgently appeal to anyone who was in the area who might have seen anything to get in touch with police, particularly drivers who might have dashcam footage of the offenders' vehicle."

The owner of a tortoise, which went missing from a Hertfordshire family's garden, is offering a £1,000 reward for information that helps to track it down.

Dino the tortoise, aged 50, is believed to have been stolen from a back garden in Cheshunt a week ago.

It's been in the family for nearly 30 years.

Owner Kevin Jennings said: "They broke in, rifled through the garden, obviously looked in the box and there he was, the last we've seen of him.

"I'm pretty devastated and haven't told the grandkids yet."

  4. Bradley Walsh inspired by Doctor Who at Watford cinemapublished at 09:54 British Summer Time 23 October 2017

As the news broke overnight that the former Coronation Street actor, Bradley Walsh, would be one of Dr Who's new companions, we managed to catch up with him as he made his way to Cardiff for a script meeting.

Jodie Whittaker will be joined by Mandip Gill, Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole

Bradley, who grew up in Watford and still lives in Hertfordshire, said he used to watch the show in black and white as a child in the 1960s with "first Doctor" William Hartnell, and he also saw the movie versions with Peter Cushing in the title role.

"I remember queuing up at the Carlton Cinema in Watford to see it and it was fantastic - so be part of it is brilliant," he said.

"[But] It wasn't as simple as [just saying yes to the part], I've got so much other stuff going on, some things have to be sacrificed.

"The news broke last night and I personally have had messages all through the night from America, Australia and friends of mine in the industry saying how did you keep that a secret?"

Due to the nature of the show, sadly Bradley can't tell us anything about his character - Graham - because quite frankly - he doesn't know either!

"He unwittingly gets caught up in it as far as I'm aware - and that's about it. I've got absolutely no idea what's going on," he said.

"They keep it a secret from everyone that's involved - it's so shrouded in secrecy, they tell you absolutely nothing."

However, fans of his popular daytime game show The Chase need not worry about him giving that up.

"As long as ITV want me to do The Chase, I'll do it," he said.

  8. Strictly Come Dancing: Good-Bri to Conleypublished at 08:26 British Summer Time 23 October 2017

Watford entertainer Brian Conley performed a fun, energetic and unmissable jive on Saturday night's Strictly Come Dancing - unmissable mainly due to the bright yellow outfits - but week five saw him and his partner Amy Dowden bow out of the show.

The public vote landed the pair in the dance-off against Simon Rimmer and his partner Karen Clifton.

Judges Craig Revel Horwood and Darcey Bussell chose to save Simon for another week running, automatically sending Brian home before head judge Shirley Ballas had to make her decision.

Following the result he said: "I have loved everything about this, I truly have, it's one of the greatest shows."

And paying tribute to his professional dance partner, he added: "I want her to be on this show for ever and ever, because I want everyone out there to know how special this lady is because she's a star and I love her to bits."

    BBC Weather

It's a cloudy but largely dry start to the day across the BBC East region.

The further east you are, the best chance you've got of seeing any brightness first thing.

The cloud will thicken up quite quickly, with rain spreading eastwards during the late morning and early afternoon.

Drier brighter weather will then move in from the west, giving us highs of 16C (61F).
