    A deal has been struck to buy one of the 16 Caparo businesses in the UK, securing 76 jobs based in four locations and two customer sites.

    Caparo Testing Technologies has been bought by Applus+, a company operating globally in the testing, inspection and certification sector.

    Robert Moran, partner at PwC, leading the Caparo sales process, says: "We continue to hold advanced and encouraging discussions with a number of parties around the sale of remaining Caparo Industries Group companies.”

    Our reporter Joanne Writtle is at the Civic Centre as a minute's silence is held.

  5. Rescue deal for one Caparo businesspublished at 12:05

    A rescue deal has been struck for one of the 16 Caparo steel businesses that went into administration almost a month ago. 

    Administrators have sold Caparo Testing Technologies, which employs about 80 workers across sites in the Black Country and the south of England.

    Talks about the sale of other parts of Caparo are described as "advanced and encouraging".

  7. Woman hit by car in Kings Norton seriously injuredpublished at 11:24

    A woman is in a serious condition in hospital after being hit by a car in Birmingham.

    West Midlands Ambulance Service says, external the woman was hit by a car on Primrose Hill, in Kings Norton, at about 17:20 yesterday.

    The woman, thought to be in her 50s, sustained a serious head injury and is being treated at the QE Hospital.

    Villa boss Remi Garde (pictured) says he's used the international break to have a look at as many of his new squad as possible.

    Ahead of their trip to Everton tomorrow, Garde says: "I'm not playing only with 11 players. I havea group of 26 and it was very important during the two weeks to work together and I looked at a few young players from the academy as well."

  10. Hundreds affected by Kiddisave going bust, says councilpublished at 10:03

    Walsall Council say it's aware of up to £10,000 of undelivered goods, after a shop selling pushchairs, car seats and other baby items went bust.

    No explanation has been given for Kiddisave's closure, but it's appointed liquidators.

    Parents who paid cash deposits have descended on the shop to demand answers.

    More than 650 people are waiting for an organ transplant in the West Midlands.

    NHS Blood and Transplant figures show 257 of those people have been waiting longer than two years and 83 longer than five. 

    A campaign's being launched today to highlight the true scale of the shortage of donors.

  13. Breaking news: Boy charged with Birmingham bus stabbingpublished at 08:33
    Breaking

    A 15-year-old has been charged by police, external after another teenager was stabbed on a bus in Birmingham.

    The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with wounding and possession of an offensive weapon and is due to appear in Birmingham Youth Court later.

    Number 14 service in Alum Rock Road, Birmingham.

    The injured boy, aged 15, who was taken to hospital in a critical condition, is thought to have been on the top deck of the number 14 service in Alum Rock Road, Birmingham. 

    He is no longer critical and continues to recover from his injuries, the force said.

    People across the West Midlands will gather today in memory of those who were killed in the terrorist attacks in Paris one week ago.

    One hundred and twenty nine people died and more than 300 were injured in a series of gun and bomb explosions in the French capital.

    The events outside Wolverhampton Civic Centre, Sandwell Council House and Lichfield Cathedral will include members of all faiths who want to show their solidarity for the victims.
