  2. West Midlands manufacturing suffers slumppublished at 17:55

    West Midlands' manufacturers are experiencing a difficult end to the year, according to a new survey. 

    Of the firms questioned in the region, 8% told the manufacturer's organisation EEF there had been a decline in their output this quarter.

    The survey showed 12% of businesses said orders were down and 10% said recruitment had declined this quarter.

    EEF chief economist Lee Hopley said that the findings were a "disappointing end to the year".

    She said the collapse in the oil price, slower world trade growth and weaker-than-expected construction activity had all contributed to weaker manufacturing activity.

  4. Appeal to track down hit-and-run driverpublished at 17:22

    Police are appealing for help in tracking down the driver, external of a car that killed a woman in a hit-and-run in Handsworth.

    Surinder Kaur, 61, died after being hit on Soho Road at about 17:50 on 4 December.

    Sgt Paul Hughes said the vehicle was believed to be a limited edition Vauxhall Astra VXR Artic.

    "I would appeal to anyone who saw the vehicle on that day or has seen one since that day with similar damage to contact either myself or my team,” he said.

  5. Black Country among worst for youth careers supportpublished at 17:12

    Young people in the Black Country face some of the worst provision of careers and enterprise support, according to a report.

    A study by the Careers and Enterprise Company (CEC) identified the area as one of their "cold spots" in England.

    Chief executive Claudio Harris said "Our report reveals the provision of enterprise and career skills is not consistent for all young people in England. 

     "With youth unemployment stubbornly remaining three times the average national rate, this must change."

  8. Funeral held for boy who raised £100k for hospitalpublished at 15:51

    The funeral's been taking place this morning of a schoolboy who raised thousands of pounds for charity before dying of cancer. 

    Finlay Church, 11, from Alvechurch, was diagnosed with a brain tumour last year. 

    Since then, more than £100,000 has been raised for Birmingham Children's Hospital and Brain Tumour Research.

    Theunion representing workers at Cadbury's chocolate factory reacts with angeras its parent company has not paid UK corporation tax.

    The Sunday Times reported, external Mondelez International "lawfully avoided tens of millions of pounds" of tax since its takeover of Cadbury five years ago.

    Mondelez announced 200 job losses at its Bournville plant in January and in 2011 reneged on a promise to keep its Somerdale plant open.

    Unite union regional officer Joe Clarke said: "Nifty footwork by clever accountants meant that the Treasury was denied millions of pounds in corporation tax that could have been spent on the NHS and other much-needed public services.

  13. Duke of Cambridge: Children give toys for Princess and Princepublished at 14:33

    The Duke of Cambridge was at Birmingham’s Centenary Square earlier today, for the unveiling of 10 slabs laid in memory of Victoria Cross recipients in the city.

    Prince William also met some relatives of those VC winners, who were all awarded for their actions in the first world war.

    The Duke was introduced to pupils from Cofton Primary School (pictured), who presented him with a picture and home-made toys for his children Princess Charlotte and Prince George.
